I swore into the U.S. Army today at the Nashville MEPS. My MOS is 89B-Ammunition Specialist. I wanted Airborne but there weren't any slots available for Infantry for the rest of the year. But I believe I will like this MOS. I ship out Sept. 13th to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri for BCT then to Ft. Lee, VA for AIT and who knows from there.

Great to hear. Good luck. Maybe you can go to the 82nd after your schooling. If you come in at the top of your class, you may be able to pick your duty station.
The Infantry is full for the rest of the year? Excellent. I hope any reductions aren't in the Combat arms. They have gutted the US Military ever since Desert Storm. I don't think there are enough left now to invade Aruba.

I enlisted through the Nashville MEPS 10 yrs ago. It's been a helluva ride since. Thank you for answering the call. Good luck, and remember that there are many many programs that the army can offer a soldier that are not always advertised. WOCS, green to gold, PA program, Ect... Focus on finishing IET for now but always be thinking about down the road.

I suspect you're soon going to have a completely new viewpoint about ammunition. From what little I know about the MOS, it seems very interesting and vital in today's military. I'm guessing it's the sort of skill set that would have more value to you as a long term enlistee than as something that might fuel a civilian career.
In any case I wish you the best fortune, and thank you for your decision to serve.
Be patient and cooperative during basic, and things should ease up some after that. Think in terms of 'we', instead of 'I'.
There are no shortcuts in basic. No matter what it might seem like, your Drill Sergeant has your best interests in mind.

I was told the very same thing. Finish basic trainee of the cycle, request a airborne pt test in AIT, do well enough and you'll get a gay pic like this one(only in modern fatigues). Everyone should have one.

When you get to basic don't volunteer. Be respectful of your Drill Sgt.s. Don't let it get to you; because when you do they will be all over you.
I remember once when I was drop, doing diamond push ups, my drill Sgt. pretend your eating your girl friend pussy. I replied Drill Sgt. I may never come back up; stuck my tongue out towards the ground. He laughed said recover and never bothered me again.
This will be something you never forget; you will not forget your Drill Sgt's names either. Give 110% and have fun. Thank you for volunteering in the best Army in the world.

Right now, the civilian sector is having a harsh time of it. If the service ever looked good, it's looking a lot better at this moment. There's a lot worse you could be doing right now than serving your country and liking it.
This assumes you're liking it; and honestly, most do, and if you don't, I'd finish my enlistment and step out.
Assuming you do, then that's the time to start asking yourself what you'd be looking for in Private Countryboy300 if you were his Platoon Leader; and by the way, asking your Platoon Leader for career planning guidance isn't cheating. You don't need to have a brown nose to ask a good question.
