Rifle Scopes I think I effed up...

So, let me preface this with the fact that I’ve always been paranoid about running out of elevation on S&B since we had some M24s retrofitted in AICS with PMII back in ought six and ran out of elevation at 625m until we put 20 MOA bases on them.

That being said, I mounted a S&B 5-20x50mm Ultra Short in a Spuhr 20 MOA Mount on a 7.62x51mm AR Platform.

The objective housing is LOW and I’m wondering if it will get worse with an ARD.

Would a 0 MOA give me more clearance and let me get out to 900m?

Dave, you posted the topic I was looking for help on... I purchased a ultra short 5-20x50 and was wondering if I needed the 6MRAD (20MOA) lift.. using a one piece Spuhr Mount... you’re ahead of me by 2 weeks. 1) your near contact concern.... ring height is 38mm vs objective at 50mm or25mm (ID)... 7mm looks correct less housing thickness... your photo is good (you by chance didn’t reverse the mount did you?). 2) you should have oodles of elevation... Hat scope has 17 MRAD of range... 50% rule of thumb for shim... the 6MRAD is less than 8.5... you should be on paper at 100 and have all the upside... unless the mount was reversed. Looking forward to following this... good luck!

I don't see a problem there. The ARD is the same diameter as the bell so it should fit fine. The Tenebraex cover might be a tight squeeze at that angle but it should fit.

Still trying to find out how a 35 mil scope runs out at 625 without something very wrong with the setup. That's somewhere in the 5 mil range on a 308 pending what your shooting. Even if you were to need 17.5 mils of elevation with a zero moa base, the 308 will run out of ass before you get there. If you had a 6 mil base (roughly 20 moa) then you will have 23+ mils of come up.

If you need more clearance your fine with zero MOA mount. If you need the 20moa mount your still good with the ARD. With that 5-20 US you will have plenty of elevation. Unless something is wrong with your setup.

No. M118LR. But the M24 bases were 0 MOA so the Small Arms Support Center had to get 20 MOA bases.

they make a mount that could add 120 moa of elevation maybe more now then add a taccom you could gain another 300+ moa that may keep you going another week just a thought leg extensions for your bi pod could add more after that you may need a howitzer and your own space program and satellites .

Like I said, I was paranoid from past experience. My AXMC’s top rail is 20 MOA but this is flat. I’ll see how things go.

I think everyone is at crosses purposes. OP stated he was concerned following issues in ‘06. Reading between the lines, he has no elevation concerns now with his Ultra Short, just wants to make sure the bell isn’t too close to the rail.

I would run a 30moa minimum mount if possible, the Ultra Short has a lot of internal elevation to take advantage of.

Run it as is... that rail and scope/mount combo are not going to flex enough under recoil to touch.

I'd just go with it it looks fine. If you switch you will gain only around 0.02-0.03 inches depending on how far your scope is in the mount. More towards 0.02 I would think. I'd rather have it close and gain another 6mil of elevation myself

That's plenty of clearance but I don't think that Spuhr mount is "AR height", it is probably intended for a bolt action.

If memory serves, AR height has the ring centerline about 1.4" above the rail for good cheek weld. I usually do it with a 0.500" sloped riser from PRI and low rings.

Spuhr probably makes an AR style mount but that one you have looks too short.

I think you need to get behind it and see if you can get good cheek weld at that height. Probably do the natural point of aim trick, shoulder the rifle with your eyes closed, get comfortable and then open your eyes to see if your eye lines up. If not, change your scope height or pad your stock until it aligns.

Well, they only make two (2) mounts for the illuminated Ultra Short (0 MOA & 20 MOA).

And yes, I am familiar with the application of “Musclular Relaxation, Bone Support, & Natural Point of Aim”.

Just like I’m familiar with the “Definition of the Marine Scout Sniper”, the Non-PC one, the one where “Targets Of Opportunity” was mentioned.
