I think it's time for lasik

I'm a programmer, 27 years old, and have terrible eyesight.

I can't read speed limit signs until they're in line with my bumper, can't see deer unless they're running, can't read menus at restaurants, etc, etc.

I've saved up for it and now I think it's time. Things are slow at work. My big projects are done. probably have a month or two of down time.

I'm In Houston but could go anywhere in the world to get it done. If you were me, who would you go to, and what would you have done?


PRK sounds best to me so far.

I had Intralase LASIK done some years ago and have been very happy with it. Preferred that to PRK.
The operation went well and not much pain when i got home. By the next morning, no pain at all and could go about my business.

Only regret not having it done sooner.

I had PRK done while on active duty. Things where great for several years but now I have reached the point of needing reading glasses. I would imagine that there are hundreds of places in Houston that do these procedures. PRK is better if you have an increased chance of getting hit in the eye as there is no flap to dislodge as there is in LASIK. Down side to PRK is length of discomfort after procedure. Day of surgery is not bad but the next few days suck.

That's what I've been reading. I spend a lot of time in the woods and every now and then I get a stick in the eye. that's my main concern in all of this.

I had prk done over LASIK - It is uncomfortable for a few weeks but the thought of dislodging a flap just sounded worse to me...

LASIK is worth every cent man I was in the same boat as you could not read the big "E" ........3 days later I could read the whole chart still today 10 years later it's flawless ....., DO IT

I had PRK done almost 6 years ago and I too wish I had done it sooner. I echo the recommendation for PRK if you think you might be at risk for getting knocked in the head. I had mine done by the military and was basically told that if you were a ground combat arms MOS LASIK wasn't an option. I went from 20/120 to 20/15 within the first six to eight weeks. I've been at 20/15 ever since. I finally decided to have it done after a puff of gas from an AR-15 fogged up my right contact lens and probably cost me a personal best score, and a match win, on the 600 yard line of a NRA Service Rifle competition.

True, it was downright painful for about 24 hours a day after the procedure and a little uncomfortable for a few weeks but that was all temporary. The ability to go to the field, camping, biking or shooting without disposable contacts, saline solution and a back-up pair of glasses has greatly increased my quality of life.

I've been reading a lot of stories about PRK recovery time. I'm trying to figure out how long it'll take before I can drive after the surgery. Seems like fast healers can do it a day or two after the bandage contacts come out, some before, some several more days.

I dunno if I can be grounded for a week just yet, but maybe. On average, I heal a little quicker than most people I know.

do it! Everyone gave me a hard time about it. But I shopped around. I found a nationwide company that offers lifetime touch ups. Walked out paying 2200 for both eyes and lifetime touch ups.
