Rifle Scopes I tried search but still need help on a 1-4...

Sorry SH but I looked for it and couldnt find it...A while back I read an outstanding post, pretty sure it was here, where several different 1-4's were compared.

Does anyone remember this???

I am looking for a 1-4 for a 16" free floated upper with YHM suppressor. Gonna mainly be used out to 100yds but with the small possibility that this could go into service for a critical incident...

Look at the SS 1-4, Vortex PST 1-4, or the Burris tac30. I remember the thread you are talking about, ill try to find it.

What type of shooting? Inside a 100 leaves your options wide open. I use a NF 1-4 with the FC-2 but I am using it for steel inside 300 and not for shooting groups.

Define your goals and needs and it will allow others to give you advise that works best for your application.

I have 3 different scopes in that range and I like all of them. My primary multigun rifle is a 20" WOA barrelled 5.56 with a Burris XTR 1-4. The reticle is very nice but the illumination is not bright enough during sunny days. My back up rifle has a Vortex PST 1-4 that has also performed well. Both rifles have been used to hit steel at 500 yards with no issues. My new rifle pictured below is a Larue OBR 7.62 that I will use in the heavy optics division of multigun. I put a SS 1-4 HD with donut reticle on this rifle and it seems to be a great match. Any of the optics I have listed would work well for your needs.

Thanks Rory, I did see this thread but its not the one I was referring too...I cant remember if it was on the Hide or not either...It had about a half dozen 1-4's that were compared side by side...

You can find a bunch info on low power variables for AR's on This board or this one

If you haven't already, type some of the key scopes into the SH google search and you'll probably come up with some good information on low power variables.

Knowing a little more about the type shooting you're planning to do as well as your price range would be helpful to folks giving you suggestions.

Take a good look at Trijicons 1-4 Accupoint with the green triangle. It is hard to beat for an all around optic that works great at night, is very precise when you use the tip of the triangle and does not take any batteries.

I started out with a Millet DMS-1. It was a good scope, but I had issues with the FOV and the eye relief. I ended up picking up a Burris TAC 30. Very happy with it. I had no problems shooting out to 500 yards in the last 2 Multigun matches.

It always helps to mention what your budget is, the suggestions will really get a lot more narrowed down for you.

I need to finish my full write up, but if you've got $800 to spend for optic and mount then the 1-4SS Group Buy is a hard deal to beat.

Sorry for leaving out info. Didnt want to get too in depth with details...I have to keep it under 700 to stay married. I would like an illuminated version that at 1x looks like a red dot but at 4x can dial in on a target. This has a potential for use as a LE weapon...

I was fondling a Trijicon the other day and it looked pretty sweet, just seeing what the consensus is out there for others. The Trijicon would be on the top end of my price range...

There is a big difference between an illuminted reticle and a reticle with enough illumination that you can substitute it as a dot site in broad daylight. As you can see in that thread linked above most of those scopes do NOT have useful daylight illumination such that they can substitute for an RDS.

I have a TR24G (the Trijicon 1-4 with the green triangle). At 1x it works as a dot site very well. That green triangle glows even in broad daylight. At 4x you zoom in a bit to get more precision, but lets face it, it is a 4x scope so you aren't going to win F-Class competitions with it. The thread above shows the TR24-3G, which is the german #3 reticle. Here is a link to a pic of the TR24G (triangle). IMHO there is a big difference and the triangle reticle is much bigger and easier to use as a RDS, but some prefer the 3G and do not find the dot too small.

If I were you I would be clear up front about which is a priority for you, having a 4x scope to make mid-range precision shots and a reticle that can act as a dot site in a pinch, or having a reticle that you are going to run as your primary 1x optic in lieu of a RDS with the added ability to go to 4x for more precision in a pinch. I get the feeling from your post that you are looking for the latter. Your selections are going to be limited, especially in that price range.

under 700 i would go with a vortex pst 1-4. Also, keep an eye out on the optic for sale page. My Vortex PST 1-4 is plenty visible in the day

Not to complicate your decision but the link below is worth a look, for the money I couldn't be happier with mine. Ed V. something that I'd misspell is the designer and a great guy to ask questions to regarding his and other scopes. It's my understanding that he did the reticle design for IOR on their pitbull scope and decided to have his own built. It's an ILL FFP 1-4, very compact and IMHO a great little AR optic. I asked him about the Trijicon and he had nothing but good things to say about it, he said that his was designed to be more of a combat optic in comparison. For a 16" AR and the use you described with the QD Bobro mount it's hard to beat.

Just traded one of my Aimpoint ML3's for a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 mil/mil to go on my MSAR E4 and love it. The Trijicon TR24 is a great scope too, just depends if you want a long range reticle or something for more close in.

I have used several 1x4 optics, and settled on the Trijicon 1x4 with the german #4(green) as my all around optic for my all around AR. My AR carbine is used within 200 yards, and for that, I don't need any special reticle, so the simplicty of the german #4 suits me fine. The scope is robust, simple, great glass, and no batteries or switches. What's not to love?
