I want the Swarovski 8x25CL or 10x25CL for a trip to Costa Rica. Kinda spendy but might be worth it.

    1. Who can sell these to me and for how much? PM if needed.

    2. What's comparable and at what price?

    3. Anyone selling a used pair?

    Thanks in advance.

I own the Swaro 8x30CL, and they’re a great travel & light hunting set. It’s not the same as my SLC 10x42, but the picture is really good. I paid $850 new on Fleabay. They’re totally worth the extra coin.

I don't believe Costa Rica is a 3rd World country nor do I believe that theft is a problem there. It's considered one of the safest countries on Earth. It's a Republic w/ democratic elections, and basically "sponsored" by the US. They have their own currency but dollars are happily accepted and used for much of it's cash transactions especially Americans. I would not consider myself independently wealthy but I surely can afford to lose $800 binoculars. I've lost more at the casino in short order. I wouldn't be happy about it, but my quality of life wouldn't suffer much.

I contacted Doug at camera land and if you are looking I'd suggest speaking with him. They don't carry SWV but can get it and his price was best. I didn't order from him for two reasons. 1st. I had $650 in Amazon points and decided to use those to subsidize my purchase. I've been saving them for about six months waiting for the right "item" to buy. 2. I don't think he would have been able to get them to me in time as I leave very early this Friday. Amazon was able to get them to me by Thursday w/ Prime and adds some security for return if they do not arrive in time. I didn't want to put Doug in that position as he was doing me a 'favor' by bringing them in special order.

With that I'd like to thank everyone for their input. I'm afraid I had decided on the SWV the first time I looked through them at Cabela's. Even the wife commented on how nice they were and we were comparing them to some Leicas.

I'd like to thank Doug for his input and willingness to help. Although he didn't get this sale, you'll be the one I contact in the future when in need of the items you specialize in. I can't recommend him enough.

Totally wrong on both counts. While I agree that Ticos are less aggressive than lots of Central Americans, it’s still completely third world, poor, and there’s crime; especially in the cities and around touristy areas (where you should be expecting it). I spent a summer at Jaco Beach. Totally third world, and will absolutely steal from tourists as either an occupation or an avocation. Don’t kid yourself.

That said it’s beautiful, the people are warm and friendly, and you will have a great time. Try to see the Cloud Forest at Moute Verde if you get a chance.

Did not know. I assumed normal amounts of crime.

    “Normal” is a relative term.

My wife's father was married to a Costa Rican for about 10 years. She and he claimed crime in Costa Rica was fairly rare.

I admit to not knowing as I've never been. My research did not note crime as a concern when visiting.

It’s not, but it’s far from crime free. I would say there’s a very low threat of violence, but as much stealing as in any poor, Latin American country.

After doing more research, I'm glad it came up. Thanks to the both of you for bringing it to my attention. I'm afraid I was going in a bit naive.
