Hey all,

For those of you who've created your own ghillie suits please...

I'm looking to make my own, for some reason I just like to build shit myself, something rewarding about the end result (usually LOL).

I live in Northeast PA so I'm not really sure that one ghillie suit would work, I'd probably need 3.

1 for summer
1 for spring and fall
1 for winter

My buddy gave me a pair of ACU's but I don't think that light green pattern would work for a base. Not sure of a good base to use for the winter Ghillie suit. Any tips would be helpful. I read somewhere to use a volleyball net. But because the netted squares are so wide, how do you attach all the burlap to fill it in? Also, use dental floss to attach the net to your camo jacket?

I read some things online, but maybe someone from PA / Northeast area could clue me in as to how to divide up the different colors of burlap to be used in my area.

Pictures would be awesome!! I'm in Northeast PA by where I-80 and I-81 meet if someone was near me and wanted to build / instruct some warm weekend in the future.

Acus will work ok, but you can always dye them a different color.

A volleyball net will work and Hammocks work great for netting, but those need dyed as well, as they (hammocks) come white.

I use e6000 to attach my netting, but as soon as I have the money, ill get a sewing machine. The floss would take a while, but Im sure in the end it would be worth it.

Here are some suits Ive made, but Ive started putting cordura on the front.

Any other questions?

What the hell is Cordura?

The ACU's I got are that puke green digital camo the Army now uses. I read they're going to Multicam for use in Afghanistan so what would be a really good base for in my parts which is primarily woodland.

You sew the netting onto your gear, but how do you attach so much burlap to 1"x1" or greater netted squares.

Cordura can go on the front of the suit to make it more comfortable and resist tearing and wearing out. Once you rollin the mud, it'll be a dirt type color. Im not sure on how much burlap per square, but you dont need it on every square. You want to break up the outline and blend into nature, not add to it.
Veg is the edge.

I used a volleyball net. As you can see that once I have finished filling it in you will not be able to see any gaps.

for the front of the pants and elbows you can cut an old gi duffel bag and use shoe goo, you can also use the shoe goo to help secure the netting to the uniform people usually make a mistake by going to heavy on thejute on the hat and backside your jacket will cover alot of your backside so start on upper thighs the type of uniform is not to important as a true gillie requires nothing but reinforcement on the front your supposed to be crawling stand up gillies are diffrent but can become heavy and cumbersome remember to drag it through the dirt when your done and never wash it.

also you can try custom concealment , as they also sell the burlap "panels" that you can attach to your own suit, they have all the colors you might need, and is already treated for fire resistance.
I think their site is under construction , but you can call them , they are pretty helpful
