If you’ve ever solved a CAPTCHA, you know, those annoying curly letters on blurry backgrounds that Google used to ask us to solve to prove we are not robots, then you’ve worked for Google for free. Specifically, you helped Google digitize all the books in its Google Books archive. Thank you!

Every CAPTCHA had two words. One was a control word to prove to Google that you knew what you are doing, while the other was the new word Google wanted to transcribe. Since Google didn’t specify which was which, we had to put equal efforts into solving both correctly.

Google used CAPTCHA to digitize its entire book archive and every New York Times newspaper printed since 1851. It did this within two years and without paying a single cent to anyone. Well done Google, well done!

I just recently left VMware to head over to run some research projects for the military.

Part of this is to see just how well or not the Google cloud platform will work. I prefer heavy lifting on premise VMware workloads to AWS, as they have a more mature stack… But it’s also vastly more complicated

I hate google so much that when I need to search for something I use google search to find duck duck go and let google take me to their competition. Unless it's a gun search, then I use google because they hate guns. I want those assholes to do things for me that they don't want to do.

Pretty much why I love sticking it to PP by using F&F to buy Guns....

So I had an issue with PayPal where I accidentally paid the wrong person because I typed the telephone number in wrong… And I was unable to retract the payment because I used friends and family. The only saving grace was that I got a stop payment order through my bank immediately. While I couldn’t cancel it, I was able remove my credit cards from the PayPal account.

However, PayPal charged my CCs anyway even though they were no longer related to the account. So I called up AMEX after filing a police report, because the person had pretended that they were to hide member when we chatted back-and-forth, and AMEX refunded me the money.

I should add that I tried every option I could find to contact PayPal and it did absolutely no good. I was unable to get a person in person, and none of their online options for review or dealing with issues deals with actual fraud / criminal theft fit the case. They clearly don’t care....

PayPal are a bunch of scumbags
