I've read a lot of threads on FFP vs. SFP and the reticle size at high and low power. The benefits of FFP are obviously in the ability to use hashes for ranging and holdovers at any power. The downside it that the reticles are often difficult to see at low power, and cover too much of the target at high power.
I'm thinking how possible would it be to put the crosshairs on the second focal plane and the hashes on the first? That way the crosshairs would stay the same size like on a SFP scope, and the hashes would change based on the magnification. It will still have all the usability of the FFP reticle and will be easier to see at low magnification like a SFP. Using holdovers at low magnification will still be challenging at low power, but no more so than a FFP scope. At high magnification, the fixed center crosshair will not cover up too much of the target. Obviously that's only the case if using the center, the hashes for holdovers will still grow in size at higher mag. Again, the holdovers would be no different than in a FFP scope.
I realize there is great difficulty in aligning the two reticles perfectly so I imagine this would only be done in a higher end scope.
I think S&B have something similar in their short dot. I think USO had a post of something similar on here, but I can't find it.
