Rifle Scopes Ideas on removing stuck Tenebraex adapter ring

So I ordered a set of Aadland caps for a new to me Minox ZP5. Got them in and they didn't fit. When I couldn't get the Aadland caps on I had an ahah! moment and realized there is a Tenebraex adapter ring on the objective. This thing will not budge. I tried my bare hands, using several types of fabric for better grip, taped it up and tried to turn it with pliers, and also tried tapping it loose with a brass hammer and brass punch. Any other ideas?

A little Kroil (keep away from coated optics) and a strap wrench perhaps.

Place the scope objective side down on something like a mouse pad on a hard surface. Something rubbery that will grab and twist. The idea is to put equal pressure around the surface of the ring when turn it.

Leather belt + vise is how I normally break things like that free.

Have had that problem before, depending your objective diameter or how tight you torqued it on these might work either in plastic version or the rubberized steel, they did for me. I was lucky because I still use filters for my photo equipment and already had an assortment of photo filter wrenches for work.

This can happen with camera lens filters as well. You can tape off the glass and cut two slits on the sides, then use something stiff to act like a screw driver to unscrew it. Here is a video showing how:



You could use a dremel too, but may need to cut a thicker notch than the standard cutting wheel does in one pass.

These look like a low cost, low risk solution. I appreciate it, probably give the wrenches a shot.

I'd try a rubber strap wrench, but that shit that people use to line shelves is fantastic for getting leverage on seemingly stuck objects. It's called Gorilla Grip Shelf Liner, but I believe Rubbermaid makes the same stuff as well.

I'd be a bit tentative to use chemicals.

Had a similar issue last night when I went to remove the adapter ring to install the sunshade on the scope. The thing would not budge, but only tried removing by hand and didn't go crazy on it. Then I tried reinstalling the scope cap on the adapter for more leverage and it spun right off, but it sounds like yours is torqued on there too tight.

Considered this also but I can't find my 550 cord. I ordered a cheap filter wrench set on Amazon that'll be here tomorrow. Hopefully I don't have to take a dremel to it. Me and power tools don't get along.

I ordered a set of those camera lens filter wrenches. Hopefully that'll give me enough leverage to break it loose and I won't have to cut on it.

They are relatively inexpensive and have helped me keep a $2,500 Canon lens from being sent in for repair after the UV-filter saved the glass by taking the brunt of an impact, and to keep a scope and Tenebraex killflash of approximately the same value looking good and functional after the killflash got stuck on it. It all depends on how hard you torqued it on, or how badly it might be warped though.

I got it with the adapter ring already on there. I didn't even realize it wasn't part of the scope until I tried to put my Aadland caps on and they didn't fit. Then I recognized the Tenebraex ring. So worst case scenario I'll have to use a Tenebraex front cap I suppose.

+1 to this, plus heat the outside of objective (lightly) with blow dryer or heat gun. Had the same issue.

After Kroil and a little heat, it popped right off with minimal pressure.

It still took some muscle but the filter wrench worked! When I finally got the adapter off the threads inside were FULL of sand. Flushed everything the best I could and ran some Qtips in there.
