Which one would it be? and why? I want to take a good course and build my skill set. I'm not opposed to travel and spending money it's just i don't want to throw it away. I live in WA if that helps.

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

Isn't Clint Smith up in your neck of the woods? I have heard nothing but good things about him - from Jacob at Rifles only as well. Other than that, i'm a Rifles Only voter as well. Top notch facility and people.

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

My opinion (and it's worth what you paid for it) - Don't focus on training at one place. Train with as many good instructors as you can. If you training budget allows you to train at one facility far away or 2 local, I'd take the 2 local to start with.

Each one will have different strengths they pass along to you. Each one will see different things in your shooting that they will help you work on.

At this point, I haven't taken enough classes to have an informed opinion on where you should go.

Good Luck.

CCP offers a great course just on the other side of the mountain for the I5 corridor...

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

Thanks guys apparently there is one just over the mountain from me. I'm going to look into it. I'm also going to look at rifles only but it looks like I could take 2-3 courses at CCP for the cost of one trip to rifles only.

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

Well considering I have no experience with either one it's not for or against either one. It is merely a statement of logistical and financial fact. However if rifles only is giving out "scholarships" to a completely undeserving novice I'm in. I hear good things about CCP and I'm looking forward to getting out to Yakima which is a change from me as all my time in Yakima is at YTC and is definitely not by choice!

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

I have no experience with CCP and can't pass judgment on them. At one time or another I have been to most of the major schools, though.

I can get 10 Super Sniper's for one Schmidt Bender. They're both good scopes.

I could have gone to Disneyland for what I spend to shoot the Sniper's Hide Cup. But I didn't go to Disneyland.

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

No argument from me, LOL, besides who wants to go to DisneyLand when you have Disney World ...

No, all kidding aside, I have heard very good things about his program. So, I think to get your feet wet, why not take advantage of a course in your backyard. If I heard different I would say, spend the money and get on a plane.

Yep, what he said. You're welcome to PM me if you've got specific questions about my training experience with CCP.

USMC 8541 course. Something I regret not doing while on active duty. In my opinion there is no better place to learn the skill it takes to employ a precision rifle, along with everything else you're taught.

I wish! If I submitted that schools request my BCO would laugh at me.

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

I am interested in attending a couple precision rifle classes later this year, but I don't even know where to begin to look.

I am seeing good things about rifles only, but the website is down so I can't get much info. Where in TX is it located? Are there any other classes here in the SE that I should look into attending?

Re: If you could go to just one precision rifle course

if i may offer some advice, i would say all those mentioned are great courses, and i assume great facilities as well

consider the following -

1. you will spend as much or more on travel, lodging, etc. as the class itself, (so all things equal, closer is better)

2. make a short list and call the places you want to attend up, and ask questions ( whats taught, is the syllabus/curriculum available ahead of the class, is there an alumni program for return students, how do they handle a class that is slowed down by slow to learn shooters? enough instructors to help the slow student out? , what will you take home (drills, curriculum book, ) is the course POST or CLEET certified ? , is there a crawl , walk , run, format or is it just info VOMIT lecture)

3. start by educating yourself ahead of the course, purchase the Hide instruction courses, read, read, read, so at least the CONCEPTS are not greek to you

and have fun !!

and as a side note ** there are many , many courses available , as you can see from this training section; WHAT SEPARATES one from another is the ability of an instructor to connect the dots, throughout the course, ie., mil instruction, and then running the range , using the techniques you were taught, does this make sense ?

so like with K-9 working dogs , it's teach a skill, practice the skill, then proof the skill -

Max stay, Max stay, under varying circumstances, Max stay, (while this cat walk by your nose, or through the ball, or walk away,
