Rifle Scopes If you have multiple long range scopes, do you have the same reticle?

I need to get a 2nd scope and im wondering how much of a benefit it is to have the same reticle. I have an ATACR w/ H59 and im debating between a razor II or another ATACR w/ H59. Im not sure i see the performance difference between the two to justify the cost difference, so im also considering a Leupold Mk5 w/ H59.

On my three primary Sage Rat rifles I went with the same scope/reticle and it's nice having the simplicity of the same format.

I try to utilize the same reticule as much as possible. I have about 20 "good scopes"
Brands are NF of which I have several 2.5-10x24's with Mil-R and also a couple of BEAST with a similar reticule.
I also have S&B's with P4F and H59's. One or 2 are 5-25's and the remainder are 5-25 US's

I dont think I have a duplicate of anything other than the old duplexes

Edit: I lied, my talor btr and midas btr both have the APLR reticle but its a version 1 vs 2 with the difference being just the stadia being illuminated vs the entire thing. Other than those 2 .22 scopes nope.

I am usually OK if all my reticle are mrad based. I am very used to different reticles, so as long as I stay away from MOA designs and from Horus mesh. In practical terms, I use SWFA Mil-Quad in multiple scopes which is convenient. With different tree reticles, there is some adjustment going back and forth between them.

When I first started buying nice scopes I tried to keep them all the same. As technology progresses I cared less if they were the same. It's not hard to use different reticles as long as you stick with one unit of measure I think you'll be fine

My two precision bolt guns have matching reticles. The rest of the fleet is different including some MOA based reticles. I seem to be able to jump from one to the other without difficulties. In a perfect world with unlimited funds, they would all match.

Tangent Theta TT315M 3-15x50 w. Gen 2XR (Two of these)
Kahles K624i 6-24x56 w. SKMR (my favorite reticle I have ever owned)
March F 3-24x52 w. FML-1
SWFA SS 3-15x42 w. Mil Quad (two of these)

I have had several other scopes in the past that had different reticles
Vortex Razor Gen 2 3.5-27x56 w. EBR-2C
Vortex Razor 5-20x50 w. EBR-1C
Vortex Razor 5-20x50 w. EBR-3C
Steiner T5Xi 5-25x56 w. SCR (good reticle)
SWFA SS 5-20x50 w. Mil Quad
Several other mid range scopes as well.

And I have shot behind almost every other major brand as well. Both FFP & SFP.

I am not a big fan of a Christmas tree type reticle myself. I do not shoot PRC or other tactical style shoots. Only LR shooting and lots of hunting.

Of my mil scopes all have different reticles:
MSR in the S&B 3-20x50 Ultra Short
Mil-R in the 4-16x42 NF ATACR
H59 in Bushnell 4.5-30x50 XRS 2
G3 in the Bushnell 4.5-18x44 LRTSi

There's zero problem moving between them - they all have pros and cons and I no longer subscribe to the conventional wisdom which places reticle design on a pedestal. Provided the turrets match the reticle they all work well.

Depending on the situation and use of the scope / reticle, it is always better to have close to the same reticle. In a stressful situation, you will always fall back to your lowest level of training.

I have an ARES I will trade for your Cronus. I like my Cronus better than my Ares.

All my reticles are the same. MIL. They all have different marks on them to coincide with of a division of this angular measurement. 2 APLR, 2 G2H, 1 EMDR, 1 what ever Nikon calls theirs.

Yes in a perfect world... I'd like to see all Athlon mil FFP scopes have the APLR3 reticle in them but with a dot as well as a + as a choice.

But I'm transitioning to .2 tree's or H59 as much as possible.

The old saying beware of the one gun man applies here. If you have to think about your reticle you have too many. The ret is just a tool. The more you use the same tool over and over the more proficient you become.

I recently made the switch to do just that for both my rifles. Obviously the ARs are different. But i'm rocking SKMR3 on both my comp rig and hunting. Brother runs EBR2C on his PST Gen II, Dad runs a plan on duplex on his V6 Conquest. I do have the GAP Mil reticle on my SPR.

Variety is the spice of life. I wouldn't want to own the same car, over and over again either. Different rifles have different uses, meaning different optics in my personal stable. But all are FFP MIL.

I have one MOA reticle left, for the sake of knowing it. Otherwise, I have five MIL reticle scopes (3 MIL-R and 2 MIL-C).

I just confirm the reticle and focal plane type on my mental pre-shot check list.

Depends. Are you planning on doing the same kind of shooting with the optics? Is one going to be a trainer for the other?

If they have different objectives, then different reticles might be the right idea. If they are for the same thing, same reticles may be correct.

You also need to factor in your “boredom level.” I like trying/using different things, so having different reticles helps with this. I also use different optics for different games.

For regular prs, I use an mr4 reticle. For .22 prs/nrl/marksman, I use an LRR reticle. Mostly I don’t require a wind tree and having a finer reticle with .1 mil marks is awesome for precision 22. For regular PRS where the targets are bigger and distances longer, the thicker mr4 with .2 and wind holds is perfect for me.

So, as with most things, unfortunately the answer is “it depends.”

Wow, with the ever changing times with scopes, you'd need to be rich. It was a big enough expense to try go all Mil, lol. My 2 favorite scopes today are NF F1's with a moar reticle, but I do have 4-5 Kahles with the skmr, one easy reticle to like.
Unless starting new, standardizing shit will put you in the nut house, or poor house.

Everyone is different as one can see in there post. I strickly use Nightforce nxs, and atacr model. Have change everything over to MOA and use the same reticle. I typically shoot long range 6.5mm or 30cal.

This is very true. But like life in general you do it over time. Unless you are a millennial and you have to have it now LOL. I started with NSX 8-32×56 sfp moar , then ATACR 5-25×56 sfp moar , just picked up 7-35×56 ATACR ffp moar, These are for bolt action. I picked up for the M14 ATACR 2.5-10×24 ffp moar very nice. you just do it gradually

betweem leupold sightron Nightforce March and vortex none of my scopes use the same reticle although if I can get it I always use moa reticle and turrets. It used to be an issue to get turrets and reticle in moa but nowadays it’s no problem at all

Is Leupold still using moa turrets and mill reticle? My first scope from them was set up this way. Ended up selling it. Did not understand the concept why they combined the two. The glass I found to be very good though.

No they have come around. I hate the fact though that my mark 4s have moa turrets but mill based reticle either the tmr or plain mill dot.
