Man, glad I’m not alone with my disgust for this agency. My wife’s an accountant, and as a .mil retiree I go out of my way to ensure we pay 100% owed on time; actually over pay usually because if there’s any question at all I just say fuck it, not worth risking any threat to my membership in the Federal check of the month program, LoL.
Last year they contacted my new employer to force them to drop my deductions to
single-zero …. I’m married with two kids, and my Mother In Law lives with us too, and we haven’t claimed her as a dependent even though we could. They did this because I made more money every year after retirement due to my new income, and especially from stock options vesting…I joined the company just before the stock went vertical and was getting stock worth twice my annual salary for awhile there, so my income (and taxes) were increasing exponentially every year for a few years.
We always paid/pay our taxes on time, and again, have really
over paid most years since retirement, but apparently Uncle Sugar likes his money A-Fucking-Sap, and can’t afford to wait for me to mail my check in at midnight on 15 April.
I actually went through my HR department and eventually ‘talked‘ to the IRS via an online chat to complain about this, and was told I could sue them, but had about a 90% chance of losing…and I’d have to pay all lawyers fees, etc. out of pocket win or lose. So I punted and just do everything I can to shelter as much income as possible.
#1stworld problems, right? And all things considered I’d much rather be paying taxes on money coming in than not having it, but the way they did this just pisses me off. I’m paying more than my fair share, but by God they gotta have it right the fuck now.
