I'm looking to buy a entry level semi-automatic

Re: I'm looking to buy a entry level semi-automatic

My brother beat me to the punch and bought a RRA-LAR 15 varmint A4 20" barrel. 90 days delivery.

This is my idea but I'm not sure it will work.

I was thinking of ordering the RRA LAR-15 Entry Operator 2 With the flip front sight gas block assembly. And the RRA tactical carry handle.

Then when funds permit buy a upper half RRA-LAR 15 varmint A4 20" barrel.

I may be wrong but I think those uppers will change out quickly and easily.

What do you guys think.

Spent some time this past Sunday testing some loads and practicing with the .22 at our Club range. A few benches down, a friend was giving his young son some instruction witn several rifles. One weas an Iver-Johnson M1 Carbine, and another was an RRA NM A4. The youngster did rather well with both, and the NM A4 really impressed me as a great rifle for a new guy.

The RRA predator pursuit is about 950 from the price ar15sales.com quoted me awhile back, from what I have seen it is hard to beat for the money. Something has to be said for the les bare, larue, Gap, and lmt, offeringsn that they hold a value like crazy. But if it were me I think I would go for the RRA.

As for the 308 vs 223, in an ar 223 is better. When you want a harder hitting more accurate round the 398 bolt gun is better, if you had to get one gun the more expensive 308 offerings would be my choice.

Build it yourself, you're going to need to know it inside and out anyways.

I would look at BCM for upper receiver assemblies, and then would build that lower from parts. You can find nice parts used on here for cheap. You can go with a Palmetto State Armory stripped lower for $50, or a spikes tactical for $100 (excellent quality). There's tons or videos and assembly guides, so it will be a piece of cake to put together.

I assembled this one for $950, $1500 including the optics (got the magnifier and swing mount for $150, the Eotech 557 for $400)

I can literally just about shoot the teeth out of those VTAC xray targets and it runs steel case like a champ.

Just learning the AR platform, having been a bolt-gun family...
But we've just ordered all the junk for our first build.

My son wanted something "different"- assault rifle caliber, but capable of reaching out and touching at longer range.

We settled on the 6.5 Grendel. I can't wait to see what it'll do...we already handload, so ammo is NBD.

What I still don't get is the crazy price of the 6.5 compared to the 5.56. Our build cost isn't much more, but the barrels are more expensive.

My guess is that A.A. has a lock on this- and that's why the major players don't offer 6.5 grendel rifles??
