Hey All,
Just working up a load for my .308 rifle using Sierra 2145 165 gr sbt the rifle likes 42 grain grouping at 3/8" at 100 yards.
My question is what would be the best zero distance for hunting and target with the 165gr and possible 175 gr MK HPBT?
Thanks
Brian

It's my budget precision rifle

Nice rifle! I like to zero at 100 yards. That way any elevation adjustments I make are in the upward direction. Then when you go hunting dial in elevation correction for 200 yds and go from there.

Watch out for the temperature sensitivity of IMR-4064. I had worked up a nice load late last fall and when I shot it this summer it didn't group very well. The warmer temps were enough to increase velocity and not be in the sweet spot any more.

I currently use 4064 and don't see much if any issues with temp swings. My accuracy load is the same as the Mk13 mod 0/FGGM so its certainly not hot, but summer or winter it groups basically the same. Varget is better for temperature swings but I wouldn't shy away from 4064 if you or anyone is looking for a good easy powder to load with.

Can anyone suggwst a good starting load for my 308 using Varget? Sierra manual suggest 38.5 to 43.0 grains for 165 gr sbt.
A load recipe that works well would be great.
My IMR load is
Brass: LC trimmers to 2.005"
Primer : Federal 210M
Powder: IMR 4064 42.0 grs
Bullet: Sierra 2145 165gr SBT
OAL: 2.800"

Im jumping in this as I am about to open my reloading room and starting with 175 SMK loaded into LC M118 LR brass. From reading and also the Hodgdon load site I was looking at H4895 as its supposed to be temp insensitive. However, as a total newb who has never load a single round yet; I have no clue if I need to be matching certain primers and powders.

Im all ears.
