since every one told me to go with imr over blc-2 I decided to try it, i had a good load worked up with blc-2 but i though i could get a little bit more of an edge with this imr powder.

i did my test at 200 yards ( its the longest distance at the range ) 5 rounds 155smk 42.0 nothing impressive 3 of the 5 rounds where inside of a 2" squair the other two flew about 5 inches to the right
after talking to a friend i loaded 3 rounds per instead of 5 so.
load #2 155 smk 41.0 2 of the 3 rounds took the top right corner out of the 2" squair, the 3ed was 2 inches to the right of the bottem right of the 2" squair.

load #3 175 smk 40.0 3 round group 1 round was dead center with the 2 " squair but one inch to the right, round #2 was one inch from the privious round and the 3ed iam not sure where it went

load #4 175smk 39.0 one of the 3 rounds hit the paper and it was one inch away from the 2" squair dead center the other 2 i have no idea.

load #5 155 smk 43.1 this was the best one all 3 rounds fit inside a 1 leater pepsi cap and where dead center with the 2" squar .75 away from the bottem ( the further of the 3 rounds, the other two where .5 from the bottem )

now with that all said iam a little dissapointed, but at the same time this is the first time i have shot in over a month, and i have a few things i want to ask and get off my chest.

Q: do you use your bipod on the bench ? or do you sand bag ?

Q: do you clean your bore after every set of loads ie: going from 41 gr then testing 41.7 gr would you clean in between these two loads ?

i would rather get more accurate loads for 175 then 155 since ( from what i have read ) 175 do better at longer distances then 155, also my gun really liked the 168 but after reading i was told 168 does not do well at longer distances

well i would love your imput not really sure which way to go with the 175's 39.0 didnt do well 40.0 didnt do well maybe bump up to 41.0 and just take my time and see where i go with that

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

In my rifle I shot IMR 4064 at 43.4 grns with a 175 smk.

You need to up the powder charge alot. Start around 42.0 to 44grns. With a 168 / 175grn bullet

A 155grn bullet go 43.9 to 46 grn range.

I agree with J.Boyette, up the charges and you may see more improvement. I would suggest a inexpensive Chrony so you can get your velocity figured out.

Also try playing with seating depth once you feel you have reached your desired charge weight. Dont just assume loading to mag length is where you want to be, sometimes seating in a little from mag length for a specific bullet will yield the best accuracy.

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

you need to find the sweet spot for your rifle.
I load from the beggining load lets call it 39.0 then 39.3 39.6 39.9 40.2 40.5 40.8 41.1 and so on until I get pressure signs.
normally I find at least 2 loads that are best and saying it might be 40.5 then i will see if 40.4 or 40.6 helps then try change seating +.010 by making small changes you narrow it down to what is best for it

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

thanks for the heads up, i did have the sweet spot for blc-2 but wanted to try the imr stuff.

i dont have the best set up just yet but i will by the end of the summer.

iam useing a lee 2 die set and frankford arsonal digital scale but tword the end of the summer i plan on spending about 1500 to get some vary awsome gear.

according to my sierra manual 42.8 is max for 175smk and imr 4064

and 155smk 45.5 is max. I do like to start by loading light and working my way up.

any way i though i would share and get your opinions, thanks for the advice

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

As said before, you're a couple grains below the load range that most folks find.
I doubt your load is shooting 2500 fps.

I suggest, when you spend your 1500 on reloading gear, you buy Quickload and ditch the reloading manuals.

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

To answer a couple of your questions, use sandbags for load development. Your testing the gun/load combo, not the shooter. Remove all possible variables. You don't need to clean between loads. You're not shooting black powder.

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

good ol badshot, haha i have not started the drill test yet on eaither blc-2 or the imr, since every one suggested imr over the blc2 i stop load working on that powder, it did shoot the 168 and 155 and 180's pretty well though.

iam dropping the 155's and i want the 175's to work if i cant get any thing good then i know 168 was doing well in my rifle.

thanks for your info i promiss i will have a drill test for you by the end of the summer.

MLC: are you saying the sierra reloading dating is wrong ? they say the max for 175 and imr is 43.?

i dont want to over pressure this rifle

Re: imr 4064 threw my msg90 clone

Most if not all manuals are very conservative with the maximum loads listed.
Quickload will allow you to predict what pressure you are running in your rifle.
QL also gives you PSI levels.

And "iam" is 2 words- I am

What are these letters your trying to put together? Words?

What the hell do they teach in school these days?!!

Are these rounds your "Zombie" killing rounds? LOL

Its scary that your reloading ammunition and can barely put words together.
