IMR 4166 for 6.5cm?

I been playing with some imr4166 for my 6.5. I have been using 130eld-m but the velocity out of my ctr is really lagging (2650fps).

I have been looking around and haven't found many people using this powder.

Is this powder better suited for something like 95gr vmax? Or is this the reason not many shoot this?

It’s a bit faster burning than optimal for 6.5CM
More of a 223/308 powder.

A lot of Tikka owners have reported barrels to be on the slow side. What is the length?

Yes it is suited better for the 95 Vmax like Varget, or , RL15. 130-150 , RL16, H4350, 4451, H4831

I shoot RL15 with the 123s and like it.

My tikka has a 20in barrel. I know tikkas all seem to be a bit slower.

I was wanting to get some 4451, but 4166 is all they had. I have a bunch of H4350 and rl16 and have some good loads worked up for that. I was just trying something different.

First, I'd suggest looking at a few "burn rate" charts, next, the next time your S/O shops on Amazon as her to include a copy of
Lyman's Long Range Precision Rifle Reloading Hand book *, It lists a 130 Berger w/ 36.2 gn. of 4166 @ 2718 fps @61.3 K psi.
One of the reasons shooters go with 4451, 4350 , RL 16, is that these powders @ 41 to 43 gn, gives a higher loading density but only a 150 fps or so gain in fps with the 130's.
At the moment I'm playing with different 123 gn hpbt. with 4064, Varget, and the usual slower powders.
* If you don;t have Quick load, or any of the other programs on your computer this book has the usual ballistic bullet drop
charts. The 123's hold their own against the 140-147's out to about 700 yds.

Short barrels give up some speed too. Most data you see is 24." Which is going to produce something around 60FPS faster. Sometimes new barrels tend to be a bit slower also. My 6 Creed picked up about 100FPS in the first 100 rounds.

I will have to pick up that book and look into getting Quick load.

I knew 4166 was going to be a little fast of a powder. But with the troubles of getting powders right now, I thought i would give it a shot.
