Saw a few questions on this site about accuracy only load for 308 Win. Just to let people know, for kicks & grins, I tried IMR 4350 for 308 Win, 168 SMK, 26 in, 1 in 12 twist, and got great accuracy even though a tech told me they DO NOT recommend it. I got it from an older Lyman manual.

I don't use a chrony. I used 49, 49.5, 50 gr loads, a 005-.010 jump. I feel confident its to slow for long range, but it was so gentle it felt like 243 Win. How in the hell do I post a pic on this site?????

Re: IMR 4350 for 308 Win

I've used it under 125 grain Speer TNTs for varmints, and accuracy was outstanding from a Ruger M77 MkII with a standard weight barrel. 5 shot groups always ran under 3/4" at 100 yards, which was excellent for that rifle. I've also used IMR4350 with 180 grain Ballistic Tips for deer. My Winchester model 70 Heavy Varmint stacks five of them pretty much on top of one another at 100 yards.

While IMR4350 in the 308 may not be the best choice for top velocities, accuracy is more than acceptable in my experience.

Re: IMR 4350 for 308 Win

Personally I like the IMR powders, but they are temp sensitive & a little dirty so I went to Hodgdon. Darn thing though...they've always been very accurate for me in the perfect temp scenario. Anyone have any info about using IMR 4350 for 308 in cold weather?
