IMR 8133 for 300WM?

Hi everyone. I've been shooting my 300 WM almost exclusively for a long time for ELR work. Been using the 225 ELDM lately in this barrel. (its 3rd) with H-1000. Been using H-1000 since my 1st barrel. Now I'm wondering if there's something better since some new powders have come out.
Has anyone run heavy pills in a 300WM with IMR 8133? I can only find 1 set of load data on this powder and it running a 230gr @ 2835 fps in sammi 24" barrel.
My last barrel (28") was running the 230gr Berger HT @ 2908 fps for 7 cycles of Win brass, & I had over 3500 rnds on it when I replaced it. My current barrel is at 2800 fps with the 225 ELDM and is crazy accurate but I'd like to get more out of it if possible.
So is H-1000 still the Go-To powder for the 300WM, or is there something better out there now?

I tried 8133; 78.4 got me 2863, and 78.6 got me 2868. I stopped there due to pressure signs (ejector swipes). I could try some 7977, but I'm expecting similar results.

Yep. I found those also before I posted here. Was hoping someone has run it with some 230gr Berger's, or A-Tips.
I can't find any to try myself but the Hodgdon data looks very promising.

Im going to maybe test some today in a 7mm rem mag. Waiting for my 300 win mag barrel to test in it too

A very small sample of five rounds through the corner graph I had an es of 12 and an SD of 4 and the other five was 19 an SD of 6 just trying to get a feel for the powder but so far liking what I see and it matched my Hodgins 1000 velocity with easy bolt lift Lift no ejector marks 80 + degree weather the Hodgins 1000 would open up very hard with strong ejector marks and ruin my brass

My dads 6.5-300 weatherby we shoot us869 and its like black powder going off lol but the imr 8133 was no smoke seemed very clean. No difference to.me then h1000 besides i think the imr 8133 was snappier it seemed like on recoil but nothing extreme. Im very happy with it so far at 924. Going to do more testing at longer range

Nice to hear. I've been using H1000 for years but since I haven't seen any in stock for months I thought I'd try it. According to the published data it might give better velocity. I should be able to test it in a couple weeks.

Some of my messages are missing not sure what happened to this. Im going to do more testing at end of month 28 nosler after november ill do a 300 win mag with 230 smk. So far really liking this powder. I have not pushed the limits with this powder yet for speed just mocked my h1000 speed barrels shoots good there. In 80 plus degrees h1000 was to hot this new powder with those same speeds worked great

Very good. My 225 & 230 loads are getting a bit hot above 70* & I'd love it if this powder will burn clean & give me the same MV with lower pressure.

Wow, i guess I need to step up my game. I'm using 8133 in a 24" Rem 700 but not even close to those velocities with 200 ELD-X. I ran out of shoulder at 2700 FPS but I am nowhere near max load.

It was 95+ but no pressure signs (again not even close to max charge).

How are you liking the powder? It honestly might be too slow for 208 grain unless you can really stick him out there I used to shoot the 200 grain eld-x in a 300 Win Mag reloader 22 2919

I've only got minimal time doing development, but so far i've got solid 1/2 groups (this is just a hunting rifle) with good SDs and ES--about 50% through my initial 50 rounds. I haven't managed to push much beyond my initial loads cause its been hotter than snot here in TX, and my shoulder is out of whack/rehab--300WM unbraked does not help =(

Thats pretty good what is the bc? Im hoping the 230 smk does good. I shoot the 197 smk 7mm and im getting crazy high bc with it

Man the imr 8133 is impressing me in my 7mm rem mag. Shot it out to 1686 very constant. I never pushed the powder to max at all so not sure on top speed. I tried it in my 28 nosler great groups but slow speed 145 going 3330. But i have a neck problem so holding back potential reaching pressure way faster than i should. But powder seems great so far

I tried 2 rnds in my 300wm just to see where the case volume & mv is. Its not as dense as H1000 but velocity was close to what I was expecting but on the slow side. I have 3 at +1gr to test now. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot them tomorrow.

How many grains of powder?

I tried 75.5gr 1st. Was a compressed load & gave 2890 fps with the 225ELDM. Im just trying to match mv of my H1000 load which is giving me 2960 fps. Its close so I'm going to bump up 1 gr to 76.5 & see what that gives. Should be very close.
Looking at the Hodgdon manual online it says max of 78.6 gr with the 230 BHyTac. Im wondering how compressed that load is. So far the 2 charges I've loaded are pretty hard compressed. I don't know how I could get a max charge in the case & get a bullet on top. I'm seating at 3.7" coal.

IMR-7977 is closer to H1000, use slightly less for same/similar velocity.
IMR-8133 is closer to Retumbo, uses slightly less for same/similar velocity.
7977 & 8133 are both double base, when you start pushing near max loads, expect temp sensitivity to increase with temp change (more when temp increase, non issue with cooler temps). Double base powders come with some downsides.

I'm very interested in hearing results I'm waiting to get better brass for the 7mm Remington Magnum and then I'm going to try to push the powder to the Max and see what I get

Went shooting with Big wheels testing 8133 today. His WM verses my 300 RUM. Interesting testing as we are both now running similar velocities. Me shooting a 245g Berger elite hunter from a 30” 5R Benchmark 9.5 twist. Powder loads were 88.6, 88.8 and 89 grain. My target velocity is 2981.
89g gave me 2983 fps.
Seating depth changed significantly from Retumbo 86.5 g to Magnum 86.7
Retumbo liked .028 off the lands eld match 225
Magnum powder likes .012 off the lands 245 elite hunter
8133 TBD with 245 elite hunter
Background information:
I have been out of Retumbo for 6 months now and have switched Magnum as it was the only thing I could find that was similar and available. It was slower so I went with a heavier bullet than the 225 eld match.
I tried RL33 but it was dirty, created a smoke cloud like, Indian smoke signaling and has not been available after the 3 pounds I was able to to find to test. Not impressed. See attached ladder test between rl33 and Magnum. The Magnum is the circle, 4 rounds 1.5 grain spread. I stopped there and did a seating depth test. See attached also. .150 is lands plus .002. Seems to like the .160 mark the best.
The Magnum shoots less than 5/8” with the flyer @ 480 yds at the 2981 FPS velocity. The same velocity that the Retumbo liked. As such I am using this velocity as a starting point for the 8133. This barrel has 2388 ish rounds on it as of today. I have a Benchmark 32” 5R left hand progressive twist 9” to 8.250” that I’m load testing for, kinda.
I’m ordering a reamer for that to launch 250g ATips with this powder as the heaver bullet and longer barrel could take advantage of a slower powder.
It should be and I’m hoping it is, comparable to Bigwheels info from his load development as his barrel is a left twist progressive gain also.
It shows excellent results.
So today was my 2nd round of testing. 1st round testing was in .3g increments starting at 85.5 to 87.7 g of the 8133. The 87.7 gave me a 2838 top velocity.
I increased the load to match the desired velocity and loaded 2 rounds of each of 88.6, 88.8 and 89. The 89g reached the velocity.
I pushed the Berger and Magnum powder and Bigwheel pushed the 8831 & Berger today to 2375 yds. It was 63 degrees and partly cloudy. Both rifles were sub MOA at that range. Very promising.
In the next couple of weeks, I hope to have the seating depth test complete and this barrel load work wrapped up. I’ll probably burn this barrel out with the Magnum and then move to the 8133 with the new barrel.
I will test the new barrel with the Magnum though, just because.

Sounds like the imr 8133 is working out. I ran it in a 28 nosler 151 and es was 17 and es was 9 3228 velocity no pressure. Been seeing great es and sds from powder

Here is my load data using IMR 8133. Granted, this is for a 300PRC but similar enough to the 300WM. So far I am getting good accuracy and i got to 2800fps with no pressure signs with a 230 OTM, this was my goal velocity and I will pick the tightest group around that speed. I could have kept on going as I saw no pressure signs, but at 2900FPS I thought this a little hot and backed down. 24" barrel

H1000 is tough to beat for 300 win mag. I tried 8133 in my 300 Norma Mag and it was dog shit all around. Groups were bad. SD/ES were worse. Velocity was low. I have an 8 pounder so I was gonna see if I have better luck with my 300 win.

Ive had great luck with it so far 28 nosler and 7mm rem mag. Low es and sd. Like 10 and 4 for my 7 mag.

I am definitely trying to put a lot of work into getting 8133 to go. I'm headed to the range today to try a few more tests but I think H1000 may be calling my name.
