Hi,
I was used to go with US 869 in my 338 improved with 300gr SMK.

No luck; neither bullets or powder available
So I got 285gr ELD-M and IMR 8133 .
Any experience with those?

Thanks for sharing

First time ever with 8133. I will publish results here when tested.
As Burn rate of 8133 is a bit slower than retumbo, I used retumbo as a base for pressure calculations in quickload to stay on the safe side since 8133 is not listed.

My rifle chamber is a lapua improved 35 deg. I mesure the max cartridge capacity @ 119.3gr of water.
So I can safely start at 93gr. and ladder up to a max of 97.5. I do not think I will go higher. Barrel is 31.5 so I can expect good enough velocities from that.

Again, I am sure somebody here have worked something similar. Old threads related but not totally this mix.
Input would be much appreciated.

For max speed without pressure signs or accuracy?
On what type of setup - powder do you achieve this kind of result?

I agree, totally possible since I did 104gr US869 but I got no experience with 8133 or retumbo and wish to keep my face more than doing the ultimate speed record.
I have a 338 Allen Xpress, which is a 338 improved with a 35 degree shoulder. There are several versions of these 338's differing slightly in neck length and body taper.

I ran into pressure at 104.5 grains of IMR 8133. I backed off to 102.5 grains and found it to be consistently accurate.

Of course, do your proper work up, but I have had a lot of success loading 1.5% off of where I see pressure.

I run a .338LM Improved 40 with slightly larger H20 capacity, so I slightly tweaked my setup in QL to run some numbers for you.

FWIW, N570 & RL33 are probably going to give you the best bang/volume combo, but since you asked specifically about 285 ELDs and IMR 8133:

...and it looks like it's a bit slow for this cartridge, but you're guaranteed to avoid any pressure issues will a full case. The problem is that velocity: notice I'm using a 36" barrel. Faster powders like N570 and RL33 should get you an extra 150fps or so.

So can you load 285s with IMR 8133? Yes, but you're going to get .338LM performance, which kind of negates the point of having an improved case. Maybe just load up a range of powder charges and see if you get better velocity than what's predicted here?

The IMR8133 I have is faster than N570 and RL33. It is only slightly slower than Retumbo.
