    Guys,

Scott from Vortex was at the Bash this week, and he handed me a Viper 1-4X for review... this is the production model and we have the very first one.

First impressions, very nice scope, great features, nice clear glass, good lit reticle and clicks, .2 MRAD per click.

More to come but I wanted you to know, I have it in my hands...

Frank, I'm interested in knowing the size of the "circle" at 1X, I like the look of everything else. Do you like the size of the cirle for up close and personal work? Could you shed some light on this please?

The only question I have regarding the PST's is how does the glass compare to the elite 4200 3-12 tactical and the higher mag weaver tacticals.

I thought these have been around for a while? Maybe they have been advertised but just not available? I had been looking at these on Vortex's web site for a few months. Have none been delivered up until now. I was also looking at their HD 1-4x, are they available yet?

Yes, the Razor 1-4's have been available for about a year now.

    Thanks Frank...
With this in your hands, and the SS 1-4s about ready to come out the options seem to be getting better and better for low to mid-priced 1-4s. Can't wait to see what yout thoughts are on this.

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

Nice! Finally! That color is SO much better than that other...whtever color...that was.
Looking forward to a range report. Is that 30mm? Hoping that'll work with my Bobro.

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

Any idea what Butler Creek Lens Cap the objective takes (for Viper PST 1-4x24)? I checked the eyepiece (brought scope into Gander Mtn) and the 16 eye (1.660" (42.2 mm)) fit. Their stock was low, so I could not get the size for obj. Anyone get these caps, and can share the size???

    Thanks, Mike

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

Thank you for the response. I did get the PST from SWFA! Awesome scope!

While the 16 eye that I checked in the store felt like the correct fit, I am not sure as they (Gander) did not have much of a selection to try. Do you have an SKU# for these particular covers, as the website displays multiple covers in the "Search Results For 'butler creek'(http://swfa.com/Search.aspx?k=butler%20creek&m=538&s=Name%20ASC&p=3)" and selecting each cover over multiple pages gets a bit tedious.

All, I would be interested to hear anyone elses response for confirmation to the caps fitting or if your experience differs. I just want to make sure that these fit...

    Thanks, Mike

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

Not certain about the 2.5-10x but I just went and refitted a 1-4x. The 16 EYE goes on fairly easy and if it were not for the rubber eye piece it would come off fairly easy. The rubber holds it decently but it will still come off in the field.

The 14 EYE on the 1-4x is not extremely difficult to get on but you do have to apply equal force on all sides of it because of the large rubber eye piece. When it is all the way on it will not come off easily or if you try to pull it off from just one side.

Either will work but I think if you tried them both in person that you would end up going with the 14 EYE.

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

Thanks for trying it! I agree that tighter is better and will select the 14 EYE. I imagine that I could always remove the rubber eyepiece cover if needed, as it would not be functional beneath the cover. Thank you for doing the fit check!

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

Yeah, that's going to go over well. Since LL will be doing us all a favor by posting a report, I'm thinking waiting until he's damn good and ready might be a more realistic approach.

Re: In my Hand -- Vortex Viper 1-4X

I think he'll get over it. Its not like he has anthing else to do. Him and Jacob are probably sitting in south TX drinking up the Dos Equis we had to buy them. Be nice to get some work out of him for a change.
