is there a decent inch/lb torque wrench that doesn't cost a lot?

Anybody used this Wheeler Eng Fat Wrench?

are you looking for a torque wrench or a torque wrench screwdriver?

I have that screwdriver, but havent used it yet...I'm installing a new scope this Thursday, I will let you know how it goes.

Not sure what you mean by "doesn't cost a lot." Good tools aren't cheap but are a good value. I have a Borka and like it. Reviews on the FAT seem mixed. There have been a number of threads on this, so you might try searching if you haven't already done so.

just looking for something to install an occasional scope or maybe tighten a few screws.

$40-$60 seems reasonable
$150 seems a bit much for my needs but I'd spend that much
rather than end up with a piece of junk

Yep reviews are mixed on the Fat.....although some of the problems were addressed.

Praetorian....let me know what you think of that Fat wrench.

The nice thing with the Borka is that like an expensive single-weight wrench the spring is calibrated to one setting. The variation comes from the lever action of the arm. In other words, how far out you place the driver determines the amount of torque. It's a brilliant design and they're well-made.

I have the FAT wrench, have used it on multiple rifles, and have had zero issues with it.

I have used the fat wrench on the rings cap screws with good luck. The ring bolts and the action screws get the snap-on inch/pound wrench.

harbor freight sells one that's very much worth the $10 you pay with a coupon....i have 2, have used them for a long time and they still stay within 1-2% of an NIST standard.....which is much better than what a fatwrench will do.

if you want to do even BETTER...then just get a seeknok for each tq value you want to use...that's what I'm doing for my shop. 20in/lb, 50in/lb, and 65in/lb

I recently purchased Wheeler Engineering's "Fat Wrench" and have used it a couple of times. It has performed flawlessly. The newer versions of this fine tool comes with a certification showing the actual torque values at 3-4 positions. The certification with my wrench shows the actual torque values to be .75 lb. to 1.3" lb. over my settings. I highly recommend this tool.

You mention an inch/lb torque wrench. I have never seen one of these but they probably do exist. It is easy to convert inch and pound torque values to the other value. One foot pound = 12 inch pounds and 12inch pounds = 1 ft. pound. So, 3 ft. lbs. = 36 in. lbs, etc..

Borka all the way. It's an investment. If you only need it for the one project flip it when your done you'll have no problems getting your money back on a quality tool. I can't say the same for the others.JMO!

Borka is simple cost effective torque wrench, I checked mine on a calibration fixture and it is spot on.

I got mine on sale at Harbor Freight for $20... It looks like a Foot Pound one, but works well for me.

It's on the high end of what you said you spend, but I have the Seekonk dial type torque wrench. I use it mostly for scope mounting and for barrel changes on my DTA SRS. I have a lot of faith in it!

On the bench, I use Snap-On and Seekonk torque wrenches. In my field bag, I have a Borka.

If someone was going to buy a single torque wrench and use it exclusively for gunsmithing tasks, I would recommend the Borka. It's one slick little tool.

I have the FAT and I like it but is wrong with a digital fish scale and a allen wrench. Inch pounds are inch pounds.

I have the FAT and I have mounted 4 scopes with it already. The only problem I have with it is that I temporarily misplaced it.

My FAT wrench appears to work fine, but I've never tested it or calibrated it. It appears to be consistent.

I have been using the FAT wrench for about 6 months and haven't had any issues with it. It's probably not the best, but it works. I'll probably pick up a Borka eventually.
