info on 6.5x284

Re: info on 6.5x284

Look in the relaoding section. Plenty of info in there. I think mine was 26-28" with a 1:8tw. I ran the 140 AMAX and 140 Bergers at 1/2moa. I think the best group I shot was a .19 with the bergers while load developing right before I sold it to build a 6.5CM

Re: info on 6.5x284

cj,
I have a Krieger barreled 6.5 284 that I use in benchrest matches. An 8.5 twist barrel will stabilize all the usual bullets up to 140-142.My barrels have started at 29 in.which resulted in velocities of about 2950 fps. After my first barrel began to give up some accuracy, I cut it back to 21 3/4 in. It now seems more accurate but my velocity is about 2600 with 52.5 of H1000 using Berger 140's.
As steve123 said, barrel life is the biggest draw back.

There is a lot of information here ;

Yes,I had basicly given up on the barrel for the matches I shoot it in as it had gone from .2's to.4's with firecracking for 8 inches.I reread the article about the warehouse and decided that that would remove all the firecracking so I decided to have it cut back.So far it has 23 rounds down the tube . Interestingly it shoots the same load as before quite well and the last 3 three shot groups were all .1's. I plan to shoot 400 and under matches with it.So far I like the experiment.

Re: info on 6.5x284

Barrel length will depend on what velocities you want to get, but for that caliber 24" is a good compromise.

Barrel life will depend on how hot your loads are, but around 1000 to 1500 rounds.
