I know there have been a lot of good options for us lately when it comes to affordable good scopes, so I wanted to give some feedback on my experience. First of all, I've been looking at these for 2 years, then I'd look through razor gen ii and the ATACR, then the XRS ii because I have an elite tactical. I decided to buy the Cronus BTR based on their good reviews.

The disclaimer, I only have about 100 rounds through my CTR with the Cronus as the new optic, as I just removed an older Bushnell Elite Tactical hoping to upgrade to a scope with a zero stop and better glass. I got it yesterday from Camera Land NY (thanks for the great deal @gr8fuldoug - the guy went out of his way to provide good cs to me as a hide member) yesterday in the mail, mounted and zero'ed at a local match today and shot the match, then checked my dope afterward against the ballistic arc table. All of that was good to go after getting zero at 93.5 yards this morning.

The tracking was spot on from 451 yards to 1096. With good MV data, the ballistics arc program gave data that made impacts based on the adjustments done with the turrets. All targets were about 1 to 2 moa. KYL was 1 moa to 1/4 moa or so (if I heard right), but i didnt get that far. My fault only.

The features are great for the price. Great turrets, very tactile, easy zero stop (I set it in 2 minutes at most). The glass was very good and clear. Very comparable to the XRS II and Razor Gen II's I've handled. The only thing I could say to make it a better product would be a throw lever integrated and caps, but hey, it's a great value for the robustness of the system in my view. Mirage and heavy haze in a 100 degree day was no problem, and neither was CA. The turrets were the best surprise to me based on others' comments in the past. They were really nice. Additionally, the reticle is excellent and was easy to get used to. The small floating cross hair is awesome and your eye is naturally drawn to it as an aiming point. I hope this helps those who are considering this optic, and ill get some pics through the optic later today.

That is a pretty heavy trial by fire, jumping right into a match with established drops. Glad it performed well.

I had a couple people ask about that decision, and from my experience it is better to just go head first and see if something works in tough situations. I am not easy on my equipment, so I want to know what the limitations will be early on. I don't think this scope will be a limitation at all, it really is hefty and well refined. I accidentally dropped it on my tile floor while mounting it, and no scratches or anything. BTW, I think your tracking test was what helped solidify my decision, so thanks for the research you did for us!

I hope the tile floor survived!

I too am the new proud owner of the Cronus BTR and Im very happy with my purchase. I find the Cronus BTR to be the best bang for the buck optic out there. Just curious if anybody has compared the Cronus BTR to the MK5?

I've been running three of the pre-BTR Cronus scopes on my precision bolt repeater 22RF rifles for almost two years now - a couple of jelrod-converted 40X/XBs, Stiller 2500XR, and after selling the Stiller to finance it, a V-22 action that I did a build on. The fierce recoil of std vel match 22RF ammo in 14lb rifles hasn't bothered any of these scopes to date.... Every one of these scopes has passed tall target & box tracking tests with flying colors. The optical quality is plenty good enough to suit me, and I also own three Kahles K624i AMR scopes to compare them to. I really don't know where you could find a scope of equal quality & features at this price level.

I recently sold the newest one of the pre-BTR Cronus scopes off the V-22 to a customer for a new 6CM build I did for him, and replaced it with a new Cronus BTR. I'd never had an issue with the heavier center cross hair aiming point of the pre-BTRs, even on some pretty small KYL targets in matches, and was slightly concerned that the finer aiming point of the BTR's finer reticle lines might be harder to pick out on targets in cluttered settings. Have run the BTR in a couple of matches with targets from 25-305yds, and have yet to see a situation where the finer crosshairs are a liability. We haven't shot movers yet in any of the PR 22RF matches I've attended, and that's likely going to be the acid test for the finer crosshairs - at least for an old guy who's less than a month away from his 67th B-D.

Just to throw this into the mix - I received one of the two Athlon Ares ETRs that I've had on order since SHOT. Pulled the Cronus off my 40XB & replaced it with the brown Ares ETR. I've always been attracted to Kahles' SKMR3 reticle, but after seeing how small the aiming dot of the new ETR scopes is, I'm wondering if it's any smaller than the SKMR3's dot? I used to bitch & moan about how the AMR's four-dot aiming point would obscure small targets, but it was dandy on movers. That aside, the rest of the new ETR's features & optical quality are great, and I'm very pleased with them.

How is the glass in the ETR vs the BTR?
I have yet to have the BTR at the range at the same time as the Ares ETR, but a few days ago, I had the ETR on a custom M700 in 7-08 Improved 30*, and the oldest pre-BTR Cronus I've got on a Bighorn TL2 Dasher at 600yds. There was a fairly heavy overcast, with what passes for high humidity in western Kansas, and fairly light wind from 4:00 at 7-9mph, and it was around 5-5:30pm. I put about 20rds through both rifles, and was a bit surprised to find that the ETR's glass was every bit as good as that older Cronus, perhaps even a bit brighter & clearer. Would like to get four rifles back down there in similar conditions to compare the ETR, older pre-BTR Cronus, BTR Cronus, and Kahles K624i. Will post my impressions in this same thread if I can manage to get the comparison done.

Quick update...

I have shot the Cronus at a couple matches...well one got cancelled due to heavy rains, but we went and shot anyway. Took it out to 1k with no issues tracking. Glass did not fog up, the mud wiped off the glass just fine and no visible scratches to the lense, nor was there any corrosion to the finish. I did have some rust on my barrel afterward that I missed wiping down. Clarity was no issue that day at all. I'm really liking the scope and how durable it is. I added a Ken Farrell 30 moa base and have just under 26 mils of elevation.
