I was wondering if it was a good idea to have a barrel chambered and installed at a barrel or receiver shop (like krieger or stiller...). I realize that they do wonderful work on the components and probably have very qualified workers. However, would I receive receive the same quality vs a good gunsmith who might assemble more complete rifles.

I don't know about Krieger, but Stiller does a great job. If you perfer to use a rifle smith here that does nothing but build excellent rifles, you won't go wrong with William Roscoe from LA Precision, or Mark Gordon from Short Action Custom. There are many other great smiths here, these are just two that continuosly contribute their time to the Hide members, and have excellent customer service. Good luck.

I had a Bartlien installed and chambered by Bartlien and they did a wonderful job. The rifle shoots the lights out and the chamber is just what I was looking for. I can jam 175 into the lands, if I want to, from a magazine.
I was worried about it to but it all worked out. You should call them up and talk to the person that will be working on your rifle. Thats should give you a better idea if you want them to work on it.

For my money it's all the same. Nobody wants there name associated with a poorly performing rifle. Choose someone with a good reputation... they've usually earned it (or have a hell or a PR campain)
