Interested in an SPR/DMR/Whatever you want to call it

I'm looking to buy a complete rifle strictly for range use, paper and steel to 800ish. Will top it off with something in the 4-16 or 3-18 range. Weight is not really a concern. My two top choices right now are the KAC SR 15 E3 LRP MOD2 and specing out a JP Enterprise JP15 and I'm leaning more towards the KAC. If there are other great choices I'd consider those as well. However this is not my area of expertise and there are only so many generic internet reviews you can read so I'm looking for input from you guys.

If you aren't afraid to build one, it wouldn't be too hard to slap together a quality barrel (WOA or something like a keystone accuracy) in a quality upper and lower set (I like the aero m4e1, but seekins or mega are good too). Then you can put in whatever trigger and stock you want.

Considered it but would rather just but something complete. Resale on gas guns is terrible to begin with but builds seem to be even worse. Not that I'm planning on getting rid of it but you never know. Plus I've done a few builds in the past and it's just not my thing.

One vote for the JP. You can build it exactly the way you want it and I'm definitely sold on them as precision platforms.

One of my favorite rifles is a WOA 18” rifle gas SPR with a KAC URX4. Kind of like a LPR but a heavier barrel. I originally built it as a MK12 clone then modernized the rail.

I've got an MWS that I shot a 1/4" group with. I don't think that is going to happen often, but made me interested enough to see what kind of consistent groups I can get out of it.

I sold my 4 other AR’s as it outshined them all.
Get a good barrel and trigger and enjoy.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with either of those; JP might get the edge for pure accuracy but KAC offers a lot of features like the BUIS & a true ambi-lower if that matters to you. I have a KAC MOD 1 LPR with the URX 3.1 rail & it's been a great rifle since day one.........not finicky, very accurate & I don't think that gun has ever had a stoppage that I can recall, with a wide variety of ammo.

Seekins is another excellent choice if their designs spin your prop & MSTN (who posts here & puts up a lot of pics in the picture thread) would also be an excellent choice in a more custom / make to order arena.

The true ambi is a big draw, I'm a lefty. I can't stop looking at the KAC.

Both can be set up as ambi. Safeties, Raptor charging handle and a Troy Ambi mag catch on the JP. Both are excellent rifles. Shoot both and see which you prefer.

That would definitely be ideal but not likely to happen unfortunately.

You might like to look at the PRI Mk 12 Mod 0 uppers/complete rifles, if you're interested in a classic AR-15 SPR look. They offer an ambi version of their charging handle, too. Unfortunately I have no personal experience with them since I'm not much into the AR platform but I'm sure they've been discussed on here.

Another DIY option is to build on an LMT MARS-L Ambi lower. Much more reasonably priced and available stripped so you choose your trigger. I’ve been thinking of getting one for my SR15 Upper.

Yes, a LMT in any variant of a full length MRP chassis is very capable and has a lot more capability in the system. They share a lot of things with KAC and their barrels are no slouch.

If the two you listed, I’d go with KAC. Krieger barrel and a good 2 stage trigger out of the box. KAC probably holds the highest resale value of any AR type gas gun. The only negative of the KAC is having to send the rifle to the factory or KAC certified armorer if you shoot out the barrel.

Rifle length chassis mrp’s are as good as the KAC and JP imo.

Just call up Compass Lake. Have them build you a MK12 upper but in 22" length bbl. Bartlein 1 in 7.7 twist and CL chamber. NO threads on the muzzle or "flash hider". Put it on a Aero lower with the screw that fits the upper and lower together tight. Get a Geissile National Match Trigger. There you go. Kreiger barrel works good also. Anyone worried about resale value needs to forget ARs and stick to old S&W revolvers! hahah

CLE is awesome-a Bartlein barrel will make you smile. It isn't a KAC though-which is an expensive, albeit very satisfying, rabbit hole.

Of the two mentioned I’d pick KAC. But if it were me I’d get a lmt mars with rifle length handguard of whatever style you like.

I have a LMT 16” 5.56 CL barrel that’s legit 5 shot 1moa with 69gr smk’s and 75gr Hornady’s. Looking forward to trying some 77smk’s in it. They do offer 16”, 18”, and 20” stainless barrels as well. Mo $.

Plus you have the sturdiest handguard system in the world if you’re into lasers, weapon mounted lrf’s, and infared lasers.

Agree with this. I have had 2 of their uppers. Currently using this with KAC lower. And, if you’re LE, or mil/ vet, they will give you a discount.

I’m running the LMT SLK8 with a 16” 1.75 Stainless Steel Barrel topped with a NF NXS F1. Running Defender Ammunition’s MK262 copy (77gr SMK) and getting .5 - 1.1 MOA out of it at 100yds.

How do you like that DMR556 stock? I pulled a CTR/RISR combo off of another rifle in the safe (which works just fine) but I was thinking of trying the DMR556 and getting their 20” SS for the longer distances (I only have local access to 600yds which is boring with this setup). Pretty much runs exactly how my KAC MK12 ran at work with MK262.

I pulled a CTR/RISR combo off of another rifle in the safe (which works just fine) but I was thinking of trying the DMR556 and getting their 20” SS for the longer distances (I only have local access to 600yds which is boring with this setup). Pretty much runs exactly how my KAC MK12 ran at work with MK262.

The elusive 18" stainless barrel, not a 20" shoots great, like a laser when you find what it likes. I like the stock too but I no longer run it. Thinking of selling it and the barrel as well actually because I put it back to a 1-8 ATACR and might just put the 16" cl barrel back in. My foray with precision semi auto stuff has come to an end. Just not my cup of tea and if you dont devote your whole self to it, at least for me, it doesn't go well.

HCS Mk12Mod1. Mine shoots like a bolt gun at 1/3 the weight and a 10x optic.
