Interesting question from a walmart clerk

Running low on shot shells for sporting clays, I went to one of the only walmarts around here that sells ammo and tossed 8 cases in the cart (which was all they had unfortunately).

This being the heart of CA I get all sorts of ugly looks standing in line, and when I get up to the cashier I'm ready to fend off the usual "why do you need so much" or "you can't buy that much" or whatever. Instead, she says:

"How long will that much last you?"

I explain I shoot a case a week. She says:

"Oh. You guys always buy so much I figured that was only a days supply."

I paid and went to leave and she said "have fun!".


I realize this is really a lame story but come on, an honest question and a positive thought from a walmart employee in CALIFORNIA??? Might as well say my shotgun shoots 1 MOA, it's just not something that makes sense.

People are so weird in LA about other people that like guns. I wore my POF shirt with an AR on it when I was out there and people looked at me like I had the plague.

So yeah to have a comment like that is about as rare as Penguin Texas.

Really? They ask you "why do you need so much"? They actually ask that? It's none of their fucking business and I hope you tell them just that.

Yes, they actually ask that. I've heard:

-- why do you need so much?

-- you can't buy that much, it's illegal

-- you can't buy that much, it's against store policy (turns out it wasn't)

-- we shouldn't sell that here, there is no reason for it

-- don't put that by my children (person in line)

I don't buy anything but shotgun shells at walmart, but it always seems to cause some sort of stir.

Invite them next time,that has been one of my replies to similar conversations.

Even had a black lady at the goodwill store in Hernando Ms,say you got a gun?

I replied very sincerly ,you mean you dont have a gun!I assume everybody is armed that I meet.Turned and walked off.

But Walmart employees have offered a variety of encounters,if she has red hair I ask em to come join in..

Lady at my walmart was asking me why I wasn't buying more. I told her I had a bunch already and just needed a few rounds and she said "you can never have enough ammo.". Pretty cool lady.

Walmart, 301 Ranch Dr, Milpitas, CA 95035

I'm in Austin once a month (yea I know, Austin isn't Texas) but still it's amazing to wander around stores there. hi-cap mags just out where mortals can buy them, ARs that aren't all screwed up, regular people with CCW permits, cheap gas, low taxes, nice houses, less traffic, awesome BBQ (I go to Rudy's every time)... wait, why haven't I moved there yet?

I guess it would be a sad day at a California WalMart if a half dozen of us Red Neck West Virginnies would walk into a WalMart in CA. We would probably clear out the store. Especially with a few of us spitting in a bottle. I bet that would really freak em out. That sounds like fun!!

Next time you do that go ahead and buy a bunch of First Aid items as well. I bet that would really be funny. Tom.

walmarts in Ohio are catching on quick.They are selling ammo
in bulk.They know what sells.most the time we have retired guys
working sporting goods.thay are shooters and hunters as well.

I've had varied experiences at WalMart but never a bad one (knock on wood).
