Intermediate DMR Round: 6.8SPC vs 6.5Grendel

I'm looking for a round to fill a DMR style role for mid and long range use, as well as for LE use with the capability of defeating barriers while being used in a precision role. With the heavier OTM rounds and the like with the 6.8SPC, is it about on par with the 6.5Grendel? Or is the 6.5 going to be the better long range round?
Thoughts?

After 350 yds the Grendel/264 pulls away from the 6.8 but the 6.8 does have new factory loaded 140gr Bergers which should close that distance a little. The Grendel has 6 factory ammo options, the 6.8 about 20.
If I was going to target shoot I would go Grendel/264, If I was going to hunt 6.8.

I'd probably lean towards the 6.5 for your role. Long range, for sure. But even under the 300-400 yards, you wouldn't really notice much difference.

I've had ar's in both calibers and for under 400yards i would go 6.8 all day and for past that the 6.5 does awesome.

The 6.8spc is the just so easy... (and small/light vs 308)

I have 2 Nov. 10.5's with NF 2.5-10's. When the sun breaks the horizon @ 1st am I shoot IPSC plates at 700yds off an Atlas BP, and both will usually make 12-14 out of 15 solid hits with SSA 115otm. When it warms @ 9am, and the breeze starts, I do speed drills at 100,50,15,5, etc. It's such an efficient and flexible little package,

BUT....

you really need a suppressor or double ear-pro if you have "good ears", like me.

SSA ammo is match grade "bees knees" stuff, and their sierra pro hunter shoots to SAME POI to distance. 110 AccuBond is right there within a min or two at 700.

Come on, can life get much easier than that!

Otherwise, at 700 the SBR's are spent Takes me another 35% in elevation to get from 700 to 800! I think vertical translation exceeds horizontal progression at 700 plus with 10.5 incher muzzle velocities.

If you need long range, not midrange capabilities, better use something else.

Well said. The 6.8 just rocks on so many levels, a 16-18" bbl or a SBR such as you have. I can't wait to try my 30P-1 on my 6.8 rigs.

I'd sway more to the 6.8 and consider it my mid range build (600 and in). I had a little trigger time behind a 6.8 and was rather impressed with its down range performance. Availability is also key and the 6.8 covers that.

Re: Intermediate DMR Round: 6.8SPC vs 6.5Grendel

I'm looking for something to sit on the AR15 platform, which is why I'm looking at the 6.8 and 6.5. What bothers me is that I have not located any barrier blind 6.5Grendel loads yet, so I guess that sort of makes up my decision since there would be more available duty loads for the 6.8 SPC if I were to bring it into service.
