Rifle Scopes IOR 2.5-10x42 vs HDMR vs Bushnell 3-12G2DMR

Re: IOR 2.5-10x42 vs HDMR

I dont have experience with HDMR, however I almost think its a no brainer to the HDMR considering you only lose 1X on the bottom but gain 11 on the upper end.

Both reticles, glass, etc are fantastic. If you do want the IOR I would call Scott at LibertyOptics since he's a great guy with terrific pricing. Good luck choosing.

What gun will this be going on would help too because you may want the smaller objective, but if not then the HDMR would get the nod again with the 50mm.

Re: IOR 2.5-10x42 vs HDMR

This will be going on my Mega MATEN 308 w/ an 18.5" fulton barrel. I have an IOR 2.5-10 on backorder through liberty optics right now, but I've been eyeballing the Horus reticle for some time, but am unsure of the quality of the standard Horus scopes.

I'd like something that is a similar weight to the IOR (around 21oz). The HDMR is a bit heavier, but every other high quality scope out their with that type of reticle is quite a bit more expensive. $1600 is the max I can justify.

I'd also like an illuminated reticle (which the HDMR doesn't have) but it's not a deal breaker.

The MP8 is the best reticle I've ever used. Way better than that of the SS 3-9x.

It also seems that the only advantage the Horus would have over the MP8 is the windage correction. Is it worth the extra $$ for this option?

IOR illumination isn't daytime bright but if you shoot in the evenings it is nice to have and the glass is a bit better. If you're on a budget I would go with the SS3-9 assuming you want that power range.

PS - I have an IOR 2.5-10 FFP

Budget isn't really an issue (well, $1600 and under). I don't really think the illumination is a deal breaker. I have to say though that the Horus style reticle is really starting to interest me. I also noticed that Bushnell has come out with a 3-12x44 w/ the G2DMR reticle. Anyone know how those compare to other higher end optics?

What I'd like:
-High quality glass
-2ish-12ish power
-30mm+ tube
-Under 22oz
-Mil/Mil
-Reticle: MP8 or horus style
-Illumination, though not a deal breaker
-First focal plane
-able to withstand zombie bites

Re: IOR 2.5-10x42 vs HDMR

I have a bushnell 3-12 with mildot. It's a decent scope but REALLY tight eyebox at max power also image quality suffers. Realistically it's a 4-10ish power scope. Works great otherwise and when they come out with the 3-12 with gap reticule I'll probably replace my IOR 2.5-10 with it.

How does the glass and construction on your bushnell compare with your IOR? Do you have the capped turret version with the MP8 reticle or the exposed turret version one?

Re: IOR 2.5-10x42 vs HDMR

I have the exposed glass quality is better than bushnell but the lack of parallax adjustment is a bit annoying past 600-700 yards. No real parallax problems inside that though (which is more than I can say about my VX-R Patrol that thing has lots of parallax).

Construction on both is fine I like the IOR knobs, eyepiece and overall feel more than the bushnell though.

Re: IOR 2.5-10x42 vs HDMR

So far the only downfall I have found on my IOR 2.5-10x42 is the lack of parallax past 600 yards. Using it on a 16" .308 POF, but I'm gonna keep it and stick it on a 300 BLK SBR build Im working on. As far as the Bushnell can't really comment as I haven't used in awhile. I had an elite tactical 3200 a year or so ago. Seemed like a decent scope tracked well glass was ok, but not near on par with IOR.

If you don't need illume the HDMR is a great choice, best built of the 3. The eyebox was my beef with the B4200 3-12, otherwise it is a good scope. Maybe Bushnell has addressed this issue for 2012? IOR, I haven't owned the 2.5-10 but if it breaks they'll take care of you. NF 2.5-10, the old standby for this mag range, tough and reliable. I prefer FFP scopes usually but not on lower mag, keep her on 10X for holdovers/holdoffs at distance and rock on, for closer shots associated with lower mag it won't matter what power you're on. The one thing I don't like about the NF is that it does not have indicating lines as to which rev of the turret it's on. Which means you need to remember or use the zero stop.
