Hello all, I was hoping someone might be able to give me a little info into the scope that I have pictured below. It is an IOR scope with Bucuresti in the insignia. It is a straight 10x, 30mm scope with 56mm objective. The scope is made of steel, not aluminum. It is in great shape, I’m not even sure if it’s been mounted in a set of rings. I have the box and all the paperwork. If anyone knows anything about these or this particular model I would appreciate the help. I hope this is the right section to post this in. Thanks for the help in advance.

Those screws looked buggered-up in the Pic. ? . so cant be new scope .
sounds like a boat anchor being steel tubed and 56mm Obj. . better options out there for a fixed 10X that that .

Never said it was a new scope. Thanks for your objective response. Don’t quite look like a boat anchor but I’ll give that a shot. Perhaps anchors have change shapes since the last time I saw one.

All I was asking for was information. I guess I got that. I appreciate your input Skookum, at least you didn’t tell me I had an anchor or something.

I owned an IOR similar to that one for about 10 years. I used it for several rifle courses, a few matches and lots of load development and shooting in general.

I have no love or hate for IOR so I can give you my unbiased experience with the 10x42sf I had. It was a steel body scope with a mil reticle and moa turrets, similar to yours.

The glass in mine was great, and tracking was good, but most of the fit/finish was typical Eastern Europe. Fairly rough machining, soft turret screws.

The biggest issue is that if something needs fixed, your likely on your own. IOR has no US repair facilities, so you'll have to try and work with the one and only US importer, Valdada Optics to ship it back to Romania for you. I've heard that process is anywhere from no-fun to impossible.

A tip to save you from a shitty experience in 3 handed mechanical surgery, never take both turret screws out, and don't fuck with the center screw, ever!. To rezero the turrets, loosen both screws about a turn, rezero the turrets, then tighten them back down.

If you remove both screws at the same time, a washer inside the turrets falls down inside, and the screws will no longer reach the threaded holes. You'll then have to hold the scope upside down, up above your head, reach into the screw hole with a paperclip and fish that washer back into alignment, then start the screws in while in that position.

So, basically, great glass but wonky mechanicals.

Sounds great and I do appreciate your input sir. I acquired this optic via a death in my family and haven’t been able to find any info about this model. I was simply intrigued by it especially knowing that it is made of steel. Thank you again.

If it came without a manual, the following info will be valuable.

To zero the turrets, loosen the 2 top screws about a turn each. Hold the top part of the turret to prevent it from moving (the top is connected to the erector). Then while securely holding the top cap, turn the lower portion untill it's zeroed. Then, retighten the screws. While turning the lower part, it will click, but as long as the top part is held securely the erector won't move.

IOR scopes are an oddity because you get Schmidt Bender level glass with Pakistan level mechanicals. At least on those older ones you do.

I have the box and manual. I doubt I will ever use this. Should anyone be interested it owning it, pm me and we can chat about a deal of some kind. If not, it can live it’s life in my safe I guess.

IOR gets zero love- when I first started browsing the Hide back in '08 they seemed respected, then I guess some shit went down and now it's akin to championing nun buggery. I think Lowlight is particularly ticked off with them for calling a specific cope the "Snipers Hide" edition without permission - said scope then went on to shit the bed in spectacular fashion.
I've had 3 this past 12 or so years, a 1.1X4, a 1.5X8 and a 3.5X18. They are all "substantial", the glass I rather like and I've had no mechanical problems at all throughout my time with them. The 2 lower powered ones I've had up for sale, but I might as well be trying to flog pube wrapped turds. Shame, as they are both not horrible.
That said, in the past decade, Vortex has appeared and everyone and their dog is making very reasonable scopes at LOW at MUCH better prices, with more competitive features whilst IOR seem to be charging near S&B prices for 2010 tech..
