anyone have any experience with either the Iota Kremlin stock or Horizon Firearms in general? They’re about 90 minutes from me so having a somewhat local builder is appealing and the price on their stocks is good vs the big boys. They’re using their own branded Stiller actions, but I’ve yet to speak to them to find what makes them different/better as a house brand in their opinion, if anything.

Would also be interested to hear of other builders in the Houston area if I decide to cobble together parts for a custom Frankenstein...I’m a big fan of the PX and only know of two builders around here.

    Thanks

I have a few rifles that were worked on by Horizon. Outstanding work and customer service. I also hunt with several folks who own Horizon builds and they are great rifles. I wouldn't hesitate to have them build me a rifle or purchase one of their various lines of rifles. The stocks are very nice as well, well thought out and input from the best in the business. Great outfit overall no doubt.

In Houston the others I'd highly recommend are Aaron Roberts (Roberts Precision), Ed Vandenberg (Vandenberg Customs) and Omar Alonzo.

I have seen some of Horizon's builds on instagram and they look to be top notch. Haven't dealt with them personally but you have IG you can check out a bunch of their work on there.

Derrick at Horizon is a good guy, reliable, and professional. He did some barrel and bolt fluting for me a few years back. I don’t have one of his rifles but he is as good (if not better) builder than most. Ive handled the Iota stocks and they are nice — most recently at Dallas Safari Convention.

A few weeks back the Carter's Country off of Treaschwig had a few in stock. I fondled one for a few seconds but it was in an off caliber so I didn't pay it much attention. You may want to give them a call to see if they still have one. At least that way you can check them out before you buy. I believe they will also order them for you.

Horizon did a full semi-custom build for me a few years ago, on a FN/W70 action. They cut the action to accept CDI bottom metal, bedded it in a McMillan Game Scout Stock, hung a Timney trigger, and threaded up a Benchmark barrel with a really heavy spiral fluting that saved me a bunch of weight. The price was in alignment with any other reputable smith, and the lead times were more than acceptable. I dealt with Derrick directly, he was very accommodating and the communication process was absolutely exceptional. The rifle shot lights out with factory box ammo.

As a previous customer of theirs, Horizon Firearms has my whole-hearted endorsement. Proceed without any reservations!
