I went to a gun show this weekend in Richmond, Virginia and I see that the Chandler's are at the show with some of their rifles. They had a left handed PSS in 308 that I liked; however, I see that they want $2195.00 for it. I looked at it closely and it seems to be just a PSS that was chopped to a 20" barrel, trued the receiver in a H&S Stock that the PSS's come in.

I spent the rest of my time trying to figure out why so much. At most I will pay $950 for a PSS, true the receiver for $250, put a 20 MOA base on it, $100 or so and that was it that I saw. So, that comes to $1300.00...so, what am I missing in this rifle as to why they think it is worth that much. Before you ask, it had a Remington PSS barrel on it and not a Hart.

Seems excessive to me. I did spend some time researching the Hide archives and see the Chandler's are known for expensive stuff but...damn, that is crazy.

Because one of the Chandler's touched it, makes it worth more, don't you know..........

</div></div> They had others that I could comment on but since they were right handed and more expensive I didn't pay all that much attention except to say, wow, that is expensive.

They do a little more than just cut the barrel and put a base on it. I bought a Chandler basic tuned 700 PSS from a friend of mine and it shoots 168gr FGMM great. Here is what was done to mine: cut 26" barrel to 20" OAL, 11 degree target crown, chase all threads on the Receiver, set the headspace @ 1.630, Polish Feed Ramp, fit Magazine Box, parkerized barreled action, IBA one piece mount w/ rings, Install HK 3/16 torque bolts, set trigger @ 3.75lbs.

Again this was the basic tune up, it sounds like you were looking at an master tune up which has their steel bottom metal, a titanium barrel pad, and glass bedding. I don't know if the master tune up is necessary but I definitely recommend the basic tune up for $425, this service lets you get the most out of your PSS, the problem is it doesn't look like any thing custom was done to your rifle.

Others have commented on the ego's extended to those who deal with them or buy their products. Right or wrong......it is what it is. But, I'd rather support the better folks around around here like Beanland, Surgeon, APA, roscoe, M.Gordon....etc

Here she is, it doesn't look like much but she shoots nice. This is how I purchased her from my friend. I have since upgraded to a 4.5-14 ER/T Mark 4,BO 20MOA base, Harris 6-9 swivel/notched bipod, Eagle stock pack, TIS Quick Cuff, and KMW bolt handle. It has 3701 rounds down the tube and still shoots .5MOA. It has the old remington trigger. Yes I know the bipod is on backwards, thats how he liked to shoot it.

I bought this rifle from my friend before I was a member here on the hide. I have never dealt with Chandler directly, I have bought some accessories online from them but have never even called them. I can only attest to the accuracy of my rifle not to anyone's ego or customer service. The same work can be performed by any gunsmith. What Chandler provides in their basic tune up package, I feel should be done to every PSS before it leaves the Remington factory.

I do understand all that and I am glad that you are happy with yours; but, if they did all that I can add another couple of hundred bucks for it and it still only comes to $1600 at most. And, I would have been interested in buying it at that number vice $2200.00 before tax. If it had another barrel (Hart) on it and not a run of mill Remington it would even be better.

I agree with you, when you get into the $2200 range you might has well look at a GAP rock for few hundred more or just buy a R700 action and have a good gunsmith put one together for you.

This was my first precision rifle that got me started into precision shooting. I shot it one day and my friend told me he was selling it. It was the first time I ever shot a one hole 3-shot group. I did not pay full price, so maybe I got lucky. I have a full custom rifle being built right now so we will see what a true custom gun can do vs a tuned PSS. Will I sell mine after I get my custom, no way! If anything I will shoot it until the barrel is done and rebarrel her and drop her in a new stock.
