Is 175 smk better than 168 Amax?

I have sierra infinity ballistic software. ANd it seems the hornady 168 amax bullets have better trajectory and about the same wind drift as the 175 smk's. Anybody compare the two side by side out to like 800 to 1k? I purposely bought the 175's but am wondering more about the 168 amaxs now. I know the 168 smk's suck at long range.

From "Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting" by Bryan Litz

168 A-max b.c. G1=.450, G7=.230
175 SMK b.c. G1=.475, G7=.243

Your mileage may very but I can usually run the 168 weight class about 30 to 40 fps faster than the 175's. 175's hold just a slight edge at longer ranges and as Victor advised, berger 175's, both vld and LR BT will top both of the above. Of course then there is JLK's 175 and 180...

I seldom shoot Bergers because of the price and how touchy they can be to get to shoot well so didn't know that they made anything other than VLD in long range or target bullets.

Their BT long range bullet actually has a better BC than the VLB and don't look so pointy. Makes me wonder if it easier to make the BT shoot well.

I dont think its coincedence that the 175 SMK's and the 155 scenars are the most popular projectiles used by pretty much everyone on this forum to shoot past about 800yds. the only other projectile which excells at that range but you might need a faster twist rate is the 208 amax.

You should stick with the 175's if you plan on shooting at the farther distances.

I made a 1350yd hit with the 175gr SMK in my 1:12 twist .308. YMMV, but that's more than good enough for me.
