They aren't cutting prices to meet on-lines sales and yet their still selling them and frequently like almost all of their other firearms. Amazing how these gun stores stay open when everything an be purchased on-line and cheaper. They must be manufacturing the money to pay the bills I guess.

SCAR 17 costs 2499 to buy as a FFL dealer so you guys can temper what you think about them and what other dealers are asking. Worth it? I have no idea but don't think people are getting rich selling those guns either. Maybe when they first came out and you could command high margins, but not now and especially in the summer time when margins are their tightest. There is a glut of firearms on the market right now because of Sandyhook and in the summer time it is almost always a buyers market with cash as king. All you need to do is look at the discount in the PX section for high end rifles and optics.

An "extension" is a piece of an existing handguard. By your logic a keymod rail is also a handguard. One thing that could be better on the SCAR 17 is the brass deflector. I'm a lefty and brass hits my neck every time. I am going to strap a piece of plastic on the deflector to increase the size, but a more elegant factory solution would be appreciated.

The SCAR is one of if not the best Multi-purpose rifles out right now. Its a STEAL at it's current price when you look at features, performance, quality and being backed by one of the most respected and oldesnt name in firearms.

If you are shooting tiny groups at long range, then the GAP would be a better choice.

If you want to shoot any ammo made for it, be able to run-n-gun, have the most reliable platform, have the least ammount of recoil, adjustable gas system, is lighter, more compact, and is sub moa with a light profile CL barrel..........then get a SCAR17.

The ONLY under 308 Semi that comes close is the SR25 16" variants. Buying a GAP or JP in .308 is just stupid. Take advantage of much better calibers that are optimized for that system.

I did upgrade to the super scar trigger and have a 2.5-10x32 vortex pst on it.
Shoots easily under moa with fgm 168 grain.

Amazingly my lower has not cracked and it has not destroyed my optic.

its a great rifle and i have had some time on the Mk17's with Cq and Std barrels, theres really nothing else out there right now that is as light and as reliable as the SCAR H, but honestly, i dont think its worth the buy in for what it is. the pencile barrel with shitty trigger pretty much limit its ability at longer ranges, spare barrel options are comically over priced,

i tend to push my 308's a little furthur out than my 556's so even at 2500 I would need, another 300 for a trigger, another 1000 or for a barrel and at that point its getting pretty close to 4 grand without an optic, if i am going to drop that on a rifle, i would rather spend a little more a get a Knights K1 or ECC, for me they handle alot nicer than the Scar

I agree with you about the SCAR but in the interest of keeping each other honest (especially since you brought up the subject of price shopping), MWS is under $2500 all day. Colt LE-901 is under $2k as well.

ETA: DSG has had one thats $2400, been in stock for a few weeks.

The DPMS GII has the SCAR beat for lightness...but obviously the reliability is up in the air, probably not as good, at the very least not proven.

Well. Hi desert dog has ssr type barrel assemblies for around 1100. Fn has their 13.5 cqc barrel assemblies for 1000.

I have the HD SSR barrel, and I got it because I wanted to create a Mk20ish type of rifle, not because I expect it to shoot tiny groups far away straight out of the box. This is an unrealistic expectation and is not really in the spirit of this rifle, which was designed and built as a battle rifle. You're asking for precision long range performance from this thing and not being happy when it doesn't deliver, even though it's not supposed to deliver this in the first place? It's accurate enough for its design. If you want long range accuracy, you have to pay extra for it. Or get a bolt gun. Either way, you shouldn't have gotten a SCAR if that's what you wanted in the first place.

The rifle was designed to knock down man sized targets all day around 800 yards, not shoot tiny groups, although many have been known to do so. It has also been proven to be very reliable and capable of operating in adverse conditions. It really has very few peers with these requirements. Lmt, kac, and perhaps hk.

I'm not sure what your real complaint is. You already pointed out a long range barrel and an SBR barrel that is available. The military also has access to Mk20 with the longer barrel and the 13.5" FN barrel. What other missions would you like?

The bottom line is this. If you are not sure if you would like it or if it is worth the asking price, go buy one and shoot it a little to see. You won't get hurt too bad if you sell it off. That is what I did with my 16s. I bought it thinking I would hate it and sell it after shooting it a couple of times. A bunch of different guns have come and gone out of my safe since but the SCAR remains.

The same can be said for the M1 / M14 / AR10,etc.

The scar is a unique design but it's just another platform with different base charastics. For me the scar does nothing different than my SIG 716 or M1A's will do but I am not an uber elite operator.

Big hint in your first line. Its a military, specifically SOCOM procured weapon system. Price means dick on the commercial side. The fact that FN is making these available at all to civilians is a GOOD thing. They could just as easy say fuck ya'll.

The purpose is a modular weapon system that can be adapted as technology goes or different calibers get adopted. There are 5.56 kits and 7.62x39 kits for MK17's. Its not perfect but its what the military asked for.

I would happily sell the .gov rubber coated dog shit on a stick if there was good money in it and they asked for it. FN is doing what any business would do in the same situation.

Except the SCAR is lighter, more reliable, more ergonomic, suppresses better, is easier to clean, is just as if not more accurate than any other CL bore, has full mono top rail and is completely modular. Ignoring all that, its easy to see what you say.
