You've probably seen the notice by Hodgdon that demand is the reason for the shortage of powders on the shelf and they are shipping like crazy. See here http://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/Web Pag...ng Surge.pdf

But, if you search the website of the company that makes Hodgdon powder in Australia, you get a different explanation lately. See here

Disruptions to powder supply
6 June 2013

ADI Powders are aware that some of our customers may have lately experienced some difficulty in getting hold of some of our powders. We are aware of some temporary disruptions to powder supply at the moment, resulting in a few localised powder shortages. These disruptions are due to a combination of several factors, including regulatory changes, operational changes by transport contractors, and changes to our distribution arrangements. We are working with our distributor to address the issues created by these changes. http://www.adi-powders.com.au/handloaders-guide/news.asp

I'm wondering wherein the truth lies? Are they shipping or is there regulatory concerns/government interfering in the supply chain?

No doubt that folks have some for sale. My question is are they currently manufacturing and shipping? You can't find it on any web based outlets of good repute, that I can tell, and it has been that way for a long time.

The big online retailers are getting it and they are selling out within hours, sometimes minutes. I have been able to snag enough powder during the last month to keep me shooting my 308 for about a year and enough to get through 1200 rounds on another caliber. It is being sold you just have to be on the quick draw and check a few times per day. Same goes for projos

The notion that Hogdon or any other manufacturer is not making or shipping materials is ludicrous. Like the old saying, strike while the iron is hot and now it's white hot.
Many folk are still buying as if in panic mode. Still, where reloading used to be a curiosity to many shooters, seems every one and his kid brother are now getting into it and ALL are buying as much supplies as they can get their hands on.

I'm seeing it come in on a regular basis around here. It's priced high and is usually gone fast, but more shows up, as usual. Now, if all these idiots would stop paying $30+ per pound so that the opportunists would quite buying it all to resell it (this goes for loaded ammo, too), the sooner we will see the end of this "shortage".

I read that letter as applying to AUSTRALIAN customers. And internal Australian issues are causing problems with shipment and transport.
