Gunsmithing is it possible to make surgeon in 308 into a WSM?

Re: is it possible to make surgeon in 308 into a WSM?

On most actions the bolt face can be opened up, saving the expense of a new bolt. Not good if your going to go switch barrel and one is still going to be a 308 based ctg. Once its opened I dont believe it can be reduced. Ive had Kelbly open a couple of Stolles for me you would never know they didnt come that way.

The bolt is a non-issue, I'll just get a second bolt. I just want to know of the action needs any work or if it's not passible at all.

The issues will depend on how you intend to feed it. The feed lips need to be opened up for the WSM if feeding from a BDL style setup.

I don't have a non magnum action to measure the bottom magazine cut out but you will definitely have to widen it, at least the back 2/3's allowing for case head and side wall taper. I am running a long action 300WSM with 208 A-maxs loaded to 2.935 COAL. What bullets do you plan on running and how do you want it set up?

On a short action I'd look at a SAUM over a WSM set up. That should give you a little better seating capabilities using a DBM
