Wanted to chop my Rem 700 VS from 26' to 20'. It shots great (.60 moa) but I wanted something a little more handy out to 500m. The rifle has about 2,500 rounds through it. what would the cost be/ Would it be woth it at this point?
if you want the lighter gun then i would say it wont hurt cutting it down. for range accuracy i know that my 700 SPS Tactical .308 shoots real well in a 20" BB.
I've had a couple of custom tubes cut back, but luckily, never had to pay. If someone's conveniently close to you, and charges $50.00 or less, I'd do it. Much more, and I'd stick the money into a new Rock barrel.
Save your pennies for a new barrel. Next year you will be asking if you should set the barrel back and have it re-chambered and while you are doing that should you have the action trued. Save your pennies for a new barrel and true job at the same time and if you order the new barrel now you are likely to have enough pennies saved to pay for it by the time it arrives. Have fun and enjoy your rifle.
