Is my scope too close to the base?

I mounted my new scope to my new base and it is mounted very close about 1/4 in maybe. I worried that when I go shooting the vibrations and harmonics will make them slam into each other. Here are some pics.

Also, when I was torquing my rings to the base my torque wrench took a shit and would not break at the correct inch pounds!!! I wasn't really paying attention and I know i got the first one pretty tight. I didn't strip or break them, I don't think I was even close to stripping or breaking them; do you guys think they should be fine?

Thanks!

As long as it not touching you should be fine. I cut the front of mine off for aesthetics; not necessary. As far as the torque, you should be fine. If you haven't zeroed the gun, I would recommend loosening them all and starting again if you have one screw you feels is over torqued compared to the rest. I wouldn't want added load to one side of the ring; more prone to shifting under recoil if it is going to shift at all.

I wouldn't be concerned about the clearance, but something looks a little off with the fit. It doesn't seem like the curve of the base matches the receiver contour very well. Could be the picture.

Take a mechanical pencil and trace a small line on the scope where the rings meet the scope. Do this on both sides. You can use this line to determine if your scope is starting to walk backwards in the rings. You can add a perpendicular line running from the scope tube to the ring to see if your scope is twisting in the rings as well. It also helps identify/ troubleshooting things if your groups start to go crazy.
