Among all the other evils that result from this state of affairs, this majority of people are easily misled. They cannot discern the true from the false. they are told "this" is politically correct, and therefore good true and moral, but "that" is politically incorrect, so it's execrable, racist and evil. So political reliability thereby becomes the standard of right and wrong, just like the architects of bolshevism intended.

I do not disagree with you. The germans in typical german fashion built fantastic but complex scopes. I am going to pull numbers out of the air for this next story as I don't remember the true numbers, but the general idea is accurate.
After the war when the US was looking at all the captured goodies, they looked at everything. Not just things like jets and rockets, basic down to things like shoes. One of the things they looked at was artillery. On the US 75mm field gun it had a grand total of like 70 parts, where the german 75 had like 170 parts. But it could drop shells .7% more accurate. Was all that exta complication worth it. Decision was no. I remember reading a report from Aberdeen talking about the long 75 like on german panthers, fantastic gun and accurate. However it fell off much faster then the US guns. The US gun could hit the tank, the german could hit the turret, for the first x rounds, then it fell off a cliff, and the hit percentage went way down. This explained the combat experience in europe, with more misses and glancing blows.
All the soviet scopes (again off the top of my head) worked and worked well. The pem was a result of the "partnership" between germany and ussr before the war, remember they are best buds back then, and one of the exchanges of information was in glass, the germans oddly enough got armor lessons.....but the pem was a "basic" copy of a german scope with all the german "way" of doing things. And they are not as wide spread as the PU scopes. The PU is the one that most people think of when WWII soviet scope is said. That short little 4x scope. The longer more fragile pe and pem scopes (basically the same thing) did not stay in wide spread use very long......sure they worked great, but fragile unlike the PU and you could drive over that thing with a tank, bust the stock in half, unscrew the scope and stick it on another rifle. (and yes I know they are a matched set, said that for grins).
What is so over looked is the beginning of that war and who was on who's side. For some reason "we" have decided to forget that the russians attacked poland from the other side and they did not do nice things to the polish people. Ole uncle joe wanted payback for them kicking his ass 20 years before. Kaitlyn anyone, and that is just the "most well known".

Both these men became US citizens and loved the USA and hated communism.
I really have no clue as to exactly why this war in Ukraine is happening other than NWO and MIC interests are enriching themselves.

With that said, I agree with you. We missed a great opportunity to forge a new relationship with Russia. Our NATO allies, in the meantime, don't think very much of us and still want us to provide financial backing for everything from chocolates to missiles.

Look at the German L70 75mm case compared to a US 76mm, like comparing a 308 to 300WM, the US 75mm is pathetically small.
Can't remember the exact number but the US wanted tank guns to last a ridiculous amount of rounds (two thousand?) and hence they were under-gunned.

There are lots of reasons the US "sat on its ass". And did not do a lot of things people think they should have done. One real issue was getting it to where the fighting is. Then just like every other time getting the right stuff to the right place. It existed before the war and it worked and was good enough to get the job done, and they knew it I really think. Your right about the stupid number of rounds, I don't remember the number, but when the spare parts come from 3000 miles away you want that stuff to last as long as possible.
Another side I remember reading is during Korea they brought back to the states a T34. This story is in T34 mythical weapon system, and it is "the" book on that tank, and like all things along those lines a bit spendy and total nerd bait.
Anyhoo, the tank stopped running at like 100hrs. Could not get it running again, so they called this russian guy that defected. He said they don't ever run that long. If the tank is still around they screw a new engine in it and off they go. It was the same thing when the idiot Brits gave the soviets the Nene engine, they could copy it but they did not understand it. Same with the TU4, it is a B29 they stole during missions over japan, had real issues with the engines, and I have read where the rudder peddles even say Boeing on them, not sure if that is true, but the planes are the same.

Go to Europe and talk to the people that lived it once again. Then you will see why some still think like that. I agree with the post in here that stated that there was a chance for Bill Clinton to make friends with Russia. And that we should have attempted to do so. But some of the older people have a hard time with that. Have you ever been to Eastern Europe/ Ex Commie satellite countries of the USSR? To speak to the people there? And the young ones that feed off the old stories do not do too much reading into history which does not help the issue of ol wife tales and the USSR. What I've read is - The turbine is a work of art; it's meant to burn ANYTHING, gas, diesel, j8, kerosene, 1st Sgt's coffee if it's black enough.

Not the US, US ordinance. US industry could pivot on a dime and mass produce pretty much anything but the folk in charge of gun development did fuck all during the war, to be fair though it took them from the early twenties till 1940 to think about, make and standardise the 37mm gun and the legwork for 75mm gun was done by the French in 1897.
I seriously doubt a T34 lasting 100hrs of run time is anywhere near average, maybe 10-20 hours. As a newer design the British Chieftain's engine was designed to last for two hours in combat at maximum power. Tank reliability is a bit different to what most people imagine.
Very good point, but it all flows back to just what words mean. They don't mean the same thing they did 30 years ago. A Nazi was a very different "thing" back then vs now.
I would hazard to guess most of the people that use that word have no clue what it really means. I generally think of the old cow joke, that is not quite a joke.
True also, this is why understanding history is key to understanding the world.......a while ago.
