I am not happy with the glass on my Athlon Argos BTR. It is not clear at even 300yds. Does anyone have the Ares BTR and is the glass significantly better than the Argos???

I've never looked through an Argos, so I really can't answer your specific question. However, my example of the Ares BTR (2.5-15x50) has very good optical qualities. In the range of magnifications where it overlaps my Sightron SIII, there's not a great deal of difference that I can see. The BTR is supposed to be Athlon's attempt to compete for sales of the Viper PST II, and I think they accomplished that goal in everything but the turrets on my Gen 1 - not that the turrets are bad, but they're not as crisp as the PST II I've handled. The Gen 2 Athlon turrets are supposed to have improved feel.

Looks like the Argos is 3 steps below the Ares in Athlon’s lineup. The Ares btr glass is very close to the pst ii glass imo. For the $450ish I paid for the gen I I’m happy.
The turrets, build quality and overall feel don’t even come close to the pst ii though.
The diamondback line from vortex is probably comparable to the argos. I was disappointed with the glass in my diamondbacks, especially above 16x, and sold them.
I think you’ll be much happier with the ares, unless you can swing a pst ii, then go with that.

I have the newer turrets on y Ares btr. With the o-ring removed, I think they are very comparable to my pst gen 2. I don't feel a difference in overall build quality myself. I do like my EBR-2D reticle better than that in the btr. I only have one Athlon and several Vortex scopes, so I'm not an Athlon fanboy, JMO.

The glass is noticeably better in the Ares series but the difference isn't huge.
As with all these scopes, all brands, there is unit to unit variance. A friend of mine has an Argos that has very nice glass in it, my two have decent glass in them. I haven't ran across one yet that has poor glass.

Definitely go for the G2 Ares BTR if you can afford it!
