I have alot of H1000 that I was using for 285gr - 300gr. With supplies limited I have a bulk of 250gr. Seems like slim pickings on gathering load data with this combo (Sierra 250gr HPBT Match w/ H1000). Can you guys share your data?

Thanks for teh info.

BigBore74,

H1000 is a superb powder for the 250 grain bullets, and was (may still be) the standard accuracy powder for QC testing with this bullet. Might also try N165, N570 or Retumbo, but H1000 was THE go-to powder for accuracy firings. I'd also suggest Fed 215 (or 215M) primers for this combination.

To your topic of powder suitability is there one reason or several reasons to use H1000 over H4831SC (or any other for that matter)? I have 8lbs of both but would prefer to reserve the H1000 for a 300win mag. I understand the H1000 should yield better velocity but if net for net accuracy is the same in the rifle is there thing that I would be missing out on or I'm not taking into account of besides the velocity? i.e. pressure curve differences, etc?

The H4831 is a bit too fast for best performance with this combination. Very similar in most other respects, but the H1000 has always just been a very easy powder to work with in this cartridge. Actually, I generally used this for both the 250 and 300 grain MKs, and usually kept several kegs on hand for this testing. it's good stuff, and will give you good results.
