just got my absolutly pristine 1973 ishapore 2a1 enfield 7.62 x51 ive boxes of fired lapua brass, varget, blc-2, n-140, various 30 cal heads. looking for a starting point for a couple of safe loads.

150-155gr MatchKing, Rem .308 Brass, CCI-200 primer, 44.0gr-46.0gr Varget, 2.810" OAL.

168-175gr MatchKing, reduce load by 1.0gr to 2.0gr. These are all full power loads, and I wouldn't load any hotter.

The Ishy is built to handle NATO ball ammo loads, and does not need to be downloaded like the Krag. It is, however, a lightweight rifle and can develop a lot of recoil with heavier bullets. Prone with 175's can get to be something of a punishment.

I specify Rem Brass because that's where my experience comes from. Lapua should perform similarly, but may be unnecessarily expensive for the Ishy.

I no longer own my Ishy (or any .308), but I really enjoyed mine when I had it. Best of luck with yours.

I found a load that approximates the NATO load and stays within the chamber pressure specs. I'm using once fired NATO 7.62x51 brass, 150 Gr. Sierra FMJ bullets, 50.1 Gr's of Winchester 760, with CCI primers. This load is rated at 40,100 CUP (Copper Units of Pressure) which is right at the NATO spec of 40,000 CUP. I haven't chrono'd the load but it will shoot 1.5 MOA @ 100 meters with the scope off a rest (on a good day - LOL). I've included a picture of my Ishapore 2A1 Tactical that I us my loads in.
