Setting up a new hunting rifle with the CDG LW. The Spuhr hunting rings I got overhang the bases by 0.11” leaving 0.75” of contact on the 0.86” wide rings. I like the look and weight, but the Spuhrs having the offset lug are annoying me a bit. ARC’s of course line right up.

Any reason to be scared of the bit of non-contact?

I'm in the, nope category, on this one,... for me.
I'd get the ones that fit..not only stronger but looks better, when it fits, as one spends alot of money on a rifle, it should appear "right," at first glance.
But it's up to you...

I don't think there is any issue with it but would personally suggest using the ARC rings.
That way you don't have that little voice of doubt in the back of your mind.
You have already gone to the trouble and expense of picking all of your components and caliber so why settle on something that causes any small amount of doubt.

I guess I am missing something but I meant move the aft ring forward on the scope tube.

The scope placement is irrelevant, there is a recoil lug in the rings that is in line with the forward most screw of the ring instead of centered on the ring like I expected. The rings can’t be placed on the bases in any other configuration than shown. I’m on the hunt for some old M10 30mm X-lows for now anyway, just wish the recoil lug had been centered on the Spuhrs.

hunting rifle....like go outside in weather hunting rifle ?

Eh I get it. Don’t think it’s not a concern. But it’s also less surfaces to freeze together and will be much easier to clean dust out of. It’s not like any bolt rifle is close to a sealed system. I’ll just have to refrain from hand packing it with mud and rocks when I get bored.
