It's been awhile since I got to shoot a 9mm 1911. Just got myself a Springfield 9mm 1911 with N serial number and Novak Sight. Comes with a the 1 piece magwel and GI bushing. Shot like a dream with 1" grouping at about 10 yards in semi rapid fire. Recoil felt like a delayed blowback of an MP5, mild and fast follow up. Ergonomics and trigger is just right. Trigger could be done to get a lighter and crisper pull, but this is perfect for me at 4.5-5.5lb and a clean break.

This is bad cuz it inspires me to get a higher end 9mm 1911 hahaha. Thinking about STI Ranger II or STI Tactical in 9mm. Beyond that there is Nighthawk GRP and T3 or Wilsons. Absolute beauty but I gotta move up the ladder slowly. :)

It would come back way more expensive than what I want it to be. It is a bit loose between the slide and frame so I dont know how much they can improve it. A higher end ones will probably have better result? Plus I am thinking of getting a full size frame and a commander slide combination. :)

I sure like shooting my 9mm 1911. It's a Springfield also. I wish it was a little more accurate, but I guess you get what you pay for. I, too, have thought about getting a better 1911 in 9mm.

Im planning on getting a a few Wilson ETM magazine for my springer. Perfect 10rds for CA legality and best looking with the magwel and everything! So farI am happy with my gun and I cannot be happier so I think I'll shoot it for a while.

I am thinking that sending it into SACS will cost another 1000 or so. With the loose frame to slide fit that mine has, would that make any big difference at all? Right now it is pretty darn accurate :D and I am happy!

Also check out the tripp mags. I've been using them in my Kimber Stainless Target II (the other on roster 9mm 1911) without issue. Definitely spend more time learning the gun before you decide to do anything to it or upgrade to another model although as a Californian it may be a non issue since high end 9mm 1911's are impossible to find here.

I love the Tripp mags I have a few of the Wilson and they run fine in my Dan Wesson but out of 5 9mm 1911's it is the only one that the slide does not make contact with the mags the Tripps run 100% in everything I have owned.

Not trying to be combative but my Wilson mags have proved excellent in 45 for decades and now in 9. My Tripp mag, bought to try, failed in several ways. No malf's in my Colt with the factory mags or my 5 Wilson 10rd's.
I have been shooting this platform more than 25 years and can tell you if your slide to frame fit is an issue' and reliability is not, You need to stare at something else.
Fix it or trade it and you may miss that pistol.

Been using Wilson mags in my 9mm with no problems. As far as your loose frame to slide - if it is an issue, it will be tightened up anyway during the "custom - izing" process. If it is accurate enough for you put on a set of Strider/Simonich grips, get the frame checkered or stippled and shoot it and have fun. Springfield cutom shop can do amazing things with some very talented people.

I wish I would have shot a 9mm 1911 years ago. Now that I got one, I really like it. I picked up an el cheapo Rock Island - a few Wilson and Ed brown parts, a fluff and buff and a new set of sights and I am really enjoying the heck out of it. I did the Strider/Simonich grips and really really like them - went with the poor man's checkering of a little skateboard tap on the front strap.

Please explain your failures with tripp mags. Not saying they can't have a lemon, but Wilson mags feel and look like cheap toys compared to tripp mags. Thin flimsy bodies, and the plastic follower can get chewed up with heavy use, as mine seems to have gotten misaligned.

You loose me pretty quick with the Wilson mags are flinsy crap stuff.
My one experience with Tripp mags was FTF and slide lock issues. With that mag.
No bash, just my prefaced observation.
1911's can be that way. Yours may run on mag 'a' and mine runs on mag 'b'.
This is not a new concept and is why not all 1911 mags are built on the same design.
There is a lot of industry on these boards.
I have attended hunderds of USPSA and Multi gun events with Wilson mags and report excellent success in 7 rd carry / 10rd bureaucrat and now 10rd 9mm types.
One mag failure and immediate replacement.
No bash, just my actual observation.
ETA; I did not care for the Tripp base pad. I cannot remember what It was, just remember I did not like it.

If you're through putting words in my mouth....

I never said Wilson mags were 'crap'. What I said was they are cheaper construction compared to the Tripp design. I also never said my Wilson mags have failed, but after seeing what the follower looks like after hundreds of rounds, I don't care to risk it in a duty/carry weapon. Good for yours if they hold up for you. I just noted the much better construction and design of the Tripp mag. I am not new to the concept of "finicky mags", or "mag sensitive" 1911s either, as I test the dozens of mine in my wife's 3". Is the credential validation pissing contest over, or do we now need to see who's is bigger?
