Or not. Collectors value rarity. But, users value usability. That includes manufacturer support if something breaks. With JEA OOB, you no longer have a warranty or support structure. I doubt anyone that relies on their gear to perform would see the manufacturer being out of business as a plus.

I see guys selling them for 1k-1200 used. My last one I just paid $2200 w custom paint. I think the resale value will be up 80% of retail if someone wants it.

It will be worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. That may or may not be what your willing to let it go for.

While I never used, or even got behind, a JAE chassis I have always liked the look of them.
Sad news when any of "our" industry has to make this decision.
I am left wondering why the company wasn't sold or the product wasn't picked up by other companies.
It would be nice to know why they closed too.

Not always the case. Some actually do go out of business, even in the firearms industry.
More to my point though, many industry companies are OOB or in bankruptcy now because of bad decisions on to whom they were sold.
I am getting the feeling that it is less costly for the antis to buy a business and shut it down than to pay democrats to legislate them out of existence.
If democrats have one thing they do extremely well it is destroying the business community thru poor economic policies, burdensome regulation or both.

Holy cow! I just spoke to Lisa a few weeks ago, and sent my chassis in for a minor repair (Gen 1 chassis had epoxied bushings in the fore end, and one of mine popped loose).

Crap. Lisa was good peeps. Sorry to see this, as I was one of the original prototype orders (4 years before they were "real"), and while the wait was frustrating, they were all about getting things exactly right. No cutting corners.

There are a buttload of expenses too running a business so looking at $70 worth of poly and steel and thinking about just how much profit there is being made could be the wrong way to look at it. Insurance, both health for employees and liability, is incredibly expensive. Also, there comes a point where you realize your business has to "go big or go home".
My son is in the excavation, landscaping and lawn care business. Lots of weeks I see my son's employees walk away with much more in the paychecks than he took in that week. Often times he has to go without to make the payroll. At the end of the year, luckily so far, he has profited. Not sure that profit is worth the risk, overhead or PITA that he puts up with though.

I’m a machinist and have worked in the gun business - you aren’t wrong.

That said, I do know what it takes to turn a stee rod into a rifled blank. And what it then takes to turn that blank into an AR barrel.

I also have worked on much of the rest of it, to include polymer AR lower design and consultation etc etc etc.

A lot of successful companies making aluminum chassis also use other products for aerospace/etc to offset their costs for being able to make the gun stuff.

You tell Oshkosh that it’s going to be $575 a piece for these custom fire hose adapters and they don’t blink an eye. And you can afford that 5 axis machine now because they wanted 200 a month for 5 years.

You make the 200 in a week and pay for all of your labor and machine costs and have a free 5 axis for 3 weeks. Can anyone say “time to make some actions?”.

Where most people make mistakes is the “go big or go home”. They stayed small to cut risk and burned their gun customers or they went big and didn’t have a follow on product ready to go the second demand for product 0 fell off.

Not a machinist, though I come from a family of them, but spent a fair amount of time working for a major firearm manufacturer.
It was an eye-opening experience for sure.

I'm not sure you understand how lack of support affects resale.

It works both ways. You may not be acknowledging how much people will pay for what can't be easily had.

Time will tell if either your statement or the opposite, apply to JAE's chassis'. Either way, it's our loss that we have one less vendor/option available to all of us.

WHile I normally would understand concern for spare parts, I just went over my jae 100 and I'm wondering what I could possibly break on this thing even if I were trying hard...

maybe if I installed the lug slide screws with a 3/4" chuck hammer drill or something?

I just find it odd that they just released the "gumball" builder and a Tikka chassis then without notice they shut the doors. Seemed like they were progressing. Kind of odd. Hopefully we will get out questions answered soon

Because they just released their chassis at a starting price of $1200 fully customized. That's a huge savings and makes them much more attractive

That's not how it works automatically.

Outsourcing almost never comes with the transfer of IP ownership. And IP ownership is something the courts will decide during liquidation.

You can't just selling the parts you make for someone else as your own.

Travis (NRL President) mentioned something about "the reason will come out in time", and another person on FB made some comments about this not being avoidable and it being sudden. Not sure what caused all this, but my spidey senses tell me it may be something outside of business that caused the shutdown (like family related). Eventually it'll come out.

I mentioned this so that some here don't rush too quickly with the mob to lynch JAE in the public square before we know all the details.

This is truly a shame. I've always loved the looks of the JAE chassis and had the chance to get behind one at the range one day. The ergos were perfect for me and I really wanted one. The cost is what stopped me from getting one. I own an XLR Carbon Chassis and an Element chassis. Their ergos work for me well also, but the price point is what made me decide to go the XLR route. $2000 for a chassis is just out of my price range. I think that this had much to do with it.

Very sad news. I own two 100-G3’s and just ordered the last 700 long action Gene Sears had in stock today. Now I have to build that 700 I’ve been holding off on for years. Anyone have a recommendation on action and cartridge?

Their 100 chassis does wonders for a properly built M14. I’ve held roughly 6” at 600 yards before with mine for 10 shots.
