Checking to see if anyone owns a newer Jeep Gladiator? I am needing a truck bed and like the idea of the Jeep ability too. I am not needing to really pull anything or do any major off roading

I am looking at a 2023 V6 Overland Edition. Curious if there is anything to be aware of.

I know a guy who has one and loves it. Personally I cant speak for the new ones but I ad a 65 that in granny gear would pull the stink off of shit.
 
I have a 2020 sport max tow and put rubicon suspension/wheels/tires on it. Mines been good. It is long though, but my DD is a 2dr wrangler Rubicon. I bought it to move gravel and bags of concrete across the soft yard without getting stuck. They need to make one without the back seat, I never have people back there. The 8-speed auto is nice.

Jeep Gladiators look silly completely stock. The only way I would own one is if I were to put larger tires and a lift on it on day one. Same for a Wrangler. The engines are small so a re-gear front and rear is mandatory as well. Gets expensive.

Jeeps were cool before jeep people became a thing. Buncha homos driving around with names on their hood handing out rubber ducks. Spend $100,000 building a rock crawler decked out with rock sliders and skid plates and 90% around here only drive to Walmart and work because there's zero rocks to crawl. They talk about off-roading after they hop a curb or drive on gravel. They have a meet up on the beach sometimes....that's their off-roading.

I’ve got a 21 rubicon diesel with 28k issue free miles so far. I love mine, take the hate and don’t give a shit lol.

It does 99% of the truck shit I need to do and it fits a lot of places my f150 didn’t fit well. Like city parking garages when I need to go somewhere for work. I’ve got work trucks for the other 1%. If not towing and you’re willing to get creative with loading the bed it’ll take care of most people’s needs from a truck. This biggest disadvantage I’ve seen coming from the f150 to the gladiator is the bed rail height is much shorter so you can’t get as large an item in the bed under the tonneau if that makes sense.

I agree with others though it looks like shit stock, I put 37s on mine the day after I brought it home looks much more proportional that way. Luckily with a rubicon 37s fit stock no rubbing (need 2” lift to really use then though). I also still get 23-25mpg highway with 37s in the diesel.

When you’re in the driver seat it feels/looks like a jeep. And as a former 2 door wrangler owner I liked that. Except it rides better. I don’t know of a better off road focused truck made right now and certainly not when that still allows you to take top door windshield etc off.

All jokes aside there’s a rancher I know who has one for guiding hunters. He loves the capability, wishes it had a little more interior room.

That some of my issues. Work in a city..for a college.. parking is a pain.

With owning a house i need a truck again as I sold my Ford Lightning (2004 model) a few years sgo.

I like the Rubicon but for the nearly 65-70k … i was looking at the Overland to save a little money but still get most of the creature comforts.

Yeah… the joking doesnt bother me. Been here a long time amd read through all of it over the years. But also knewsoke of you actually own the Jeep Gladiator and I wanted some feedback before dropping $50k.

I was concerned about the ride quality but i am also not needing it to be a Cadillac.
 
I have a 2003 F150 FX4 and there is only one deck in downtown Atlanta I can't fit in. I'm gifting it to my daughter for Christmas - I'll still have access to it if needed, especially as she's out in Hawaii most of the year.

I have two friends with Gladiators, I've driven them. They are cute.
 
I don't have a Gladiator, but I have a 2020 2-Door Wrangler Rubicon (wife's DD - she wanted it), and it's an overpriced piece of shit.

It's a terrible machine that actually breaks itself through normal use (we're on windshield #4), but at least it's good at being a jeep the 3-4 days per year I take all the doors and shit off and take it out on the trails.

JMHO, but the Gladiator's suck at both being a jeep and at being a pickup truck. 4-door Wrangler's suck at both being a jeep and an SUV.

Good resale though, they hold their value (ours might be worth what we paid pre-covid) that's their best attribute by far, there are many adventure-wannabe douchebags out there who are willing to pay for the privilege to join the stupid jeep club. BTW/FWIW you pretty much have to buy one new to not get screwed... but you're still sort of getting screwed because they make a TRD PRO seem like a good deal (they're not) lol.

I like lifted trucks and jeeps as long as its not overboard although I won’t waste the money to do it. It’s something the younger ones can do.

I already said I have a 2003 F150. I also have a 450HP sports car. My daughter has a challenger, a 442, and two other classic - she recently sold her corvette.

Both the people I know with Gladiators are "barbies"..
 
Look I'm going to stop you right now. It's a Scrambler....not a Gladiator. Just call it what it is.

It's not though. Scrambler was a jeep with an attached extended cargo area, a gladiator is a light duty truck with a separate bed and passenger area.

For just needing a truck bed to get homeowner type shit, I'd personally find a beater long bed full size truck to do material runs long before I got a mini-truck to use for everything, then put (or keep) real money in a vehicle that will get you around every day. Once paid for in cash, they're typically cheap to keep with minimum liability insurance and annual registration/taxes being low for an aged vehicle, state dependent of course.

Not my money, it's yours, but I've done the homeowner thing long enough to know having my long bed F250 paid off a lot when putting in a new privacy fence, picking up a new fridge or sliding glass door, replacing a roof including rotted out sheathing or framing and finishing a basement. It was my heavy hauling 460 powered beater and my 2-door Exploder got me around town cheap and into the mountains for everything else. I sold it while working overseas, a bit of regret seeing what similar priced is now, and having the fridge take a shit on Dec 23 a couple years back required calling in a favor from a co-worker to borrow his truck and having to buy firewood from someone instead of getting a USFS permit and cutting my own. I don't think I would want to do any of those tasks in a Gladiator pick-up.

Just thoughts from someone who has hauled a lot of shit as a 20+ year homeowner.

Do you want to have a bulletproof truck that will do everything you want with absolutely no big issues? A truck that after 300k miles you look at it and go, holy cow this thing won't die! If so then get a Toyota Tacoma and stay the hell away from any jeep.
 
I have a 21 Overland Ecodiesel model. I ordered it mid 20 and picked it up December 2020. It has just shy of 40k miles and has been in the shop several times. Other than that, the things is fairly nice and gets good mileage for a driving cinder block.

Spent 3 weeks in the shop for “death wobble”. They dealership ended up installing the Fox heavy duty stabilizer to tame it.

Has been to the shop twice for fuel filler door problems. It locked up twice and I could not put fuel in. Dealership blasted it open with a punch and hammer, installed new filler neck. Second go round, I beat it open myself. I will eventually do the discriminator delete so I can use the big rig pumps and that will eliminate that issue all together.

Had BOTH batteries replaced at just a hair over 39k miles. Service manager said it was an issue with a lot of jeeps, but so far there is no recall. Paid out of pocket for those batteries.

Just received a recall notice for the high pressure fuel pump and possible failure. No remedy available as of yesterday.

The day it arrived on the trailer and after a few changes

My wife bought a Rubicon 2020. I have an 18 Tacoma. My Tacoma has been in the shop twice. Hers has not. I got the 18 Tacoma when my 16 Tacoma engine had to be replaced in 17. Everything is junk. Complete garbage. All vehicles!!! Buy what makes you feel good, because no matter what you buy it will fail!
 
Bought my rubicon last year. And left it stock. It looks stupid but is plenty capable stock. 12k miles and only problem is windshield replacement. That said, it’s usually ranked last place in terms of reliability.

IMHO if you need an off road capable truck, there’s nothing better. But pretty much every other truck will be better on road.

I stepped down from a 3/4 ton AEV prospector that had front and rear lockers and 37” tires. Relatively the gladiator is super cramped internally and in the bed. But it is so much easier to drive on mountain logging roads I live on.

Fuck people who think being fat is being handicap too, you need to walk that's the problem get your fat ass off the scooter and out of the buffet line....that's coming from someone who needs to lose weight, but I'm not a lazy twat.

Thats a shame. The 65 I had in Montana was full of wood ad towed another pick up truck full of fire wood up and over a rugged mt. road. It wasnt pretty, would ruin your kidney's, but it would pull. Wish I still had it.

I am not going to disagree that obesity, in and of itself, should not qualify for the blue tag.
I am saying that to deny those who really should need that parking spot is an asshole move by someone that
1) Can't park for shit
2) Can get in and out of that contraption and likely should not be parked there, no matter who did it.

If that is the shops contraption, why not park it out on the grass, up on a rock showing all a little of its capabilities? Why not choose a spot that ain't marked as special needs? I guess it'd be ok if they had modified a short bus.
