Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

Re: Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

have you shot either before? What trigger are you used to? Either one are up to the task when set properly. Do you like chevy or ford?

Basically a question like this will generate a bunch of opinions based on what other people like the feel of, or have used without any problems. You might find some people who don't like one or the other as well, but overall you are going to end up having to try them both if you want to know which one you like better.

Re: Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

I have heard the same stories on the jewell, but when my was adjusted with a little extra overtravel, it was an excellent trigger. I didn't ever have it out in a dusty environment, but it was reliable for me. The shilen is a little more robust, but it is a trade off for feel.

The biggest difference IMHO is the trigger shoe. The shilen has one similar to the factory trigger, while the jewell is thin.

It is really going to come down to personal preference as there will be people that say jewell is the best and others that say they are un-reliable... how do you decide who to believe?

Just depends the deciding factor MAY come down to cost but I doubt it

Re: Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

Knowing that Jewell IS a pretty good trigger and hearing that Shilen was to, only want the best on my Custom rig as per feel, reliability, and not having to worry about malfunctions in the field!

Re: Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

What makes you say that? Drop in, no adjustments? Everyone I have heard using them says they are awesome.

I would venture to say the jewell requires much more setup to get it right. Also, my experience with jewell is that you can't just rely on the instructions to set them, they need to be tweaked a little bit differently to get a good pull... YMMV

Re: Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

I like the Jewell also. Have a Timmney on a couple other rifles that I hunt with. Like the Jewell a lot better though,It just seems the trigger is crisper. Don't really think you could go wrong with any of the above mentioned triggers either.

Re: Jewell or Shilen for Custom?

I would say get a competent gunsmith to work over a rem trigger. Love mine.

Edit: If you need talk to Nate Dagley from straight shot gunsmithing and he can give you a technical reason for why he likes certain triggers from a smith's standpoint.
