Jon Beanland barreled TRG-22 in 6BR

I went down to Jon's last week and we put a new 6BR barrel on my TRG-22. Jon just got a new lathe and is now able to barrel metric actions so I figured I would put a range report of his first one up. Needless to say, it shoots like all of the rifles Jon builds do.

This was the first group I shot out of it with 107 Sierras while experimenting with different powder.

The two images above were shot at 200 yards in a 15 MPH tail wind that was pretty tough. 29.0 grains of 8208xbr pushing the 105 Hybrids at 2850 FPS. ES of 4 and 6 on the two groups.

Feeding is perfect. Extraction is the tricky part. I've lengthened the extractor the best I can to give it some more push, and it will extract every time as long as you don't go too fast with it. We are going to make a new extractor with about 10 thousandths more push and I think it will be good to go.

I agree completely, hell i even tried to build a 6 dasher repeater on eliseo chassis pierce action but this would be much cooler. the 6mm br is one of the most fun cartridges to shoot

Awesome, talked to Jon about rebarreling a trg couple of months ago and he said no dice. This changes things for my 260 build.

Ya it's a great little caliber and the new 105 hybrids make it be able to run with the 6.5's just fine. I'll keep the thread updated as we mess with the new ejector, but at this point I think we can make it work just fine. My only concern is that once we lengthen the ejector it will stick out in front of the bolt face and the base of the round will hang up on it. I think that can be resolved be cutting a slight angle in the extractor to let the base of the cartridge not catch on it.

Yep, he can definitely do it. And after seeing what the threads on the 308 barrel that came off of it look like, I would MUCH rather have him do it than try and get a factory one.

I went with a standard palma finished at 27''. Turn around time is 4 months.

Looks pretty much like standard perfection for another 6mmbr.

Nice shooting BTW!

I am surprised it functioned so well.
Please keep us up to date on the progression of the project. As much as I love the 6mmbr I have never been able to get a perfectly feeding sample and ultimately resorted to single shot.

Not to hijack the thread but if you want a 22 caliber speed demon that feeds and extract every single time….. call GA Precision and ask them about the "22 Creedmoor".
A .223 projo in necked down 6mm Creedmoor brass. Sends a 75gr AMAX at 3415 fps with no issues. I am currently testing other bullets as well. There is a thread about it, give it a look see.

I should have updated this. It did not end up working out. If you loaded more than 4 or so rounds in a mag you would have problems. Also, you had to extend the ejector to the point that it stuck out past the bolt face to get reliable ejection.

The first thing that comes to mind is no fireforming. 22CM is one shove of 6CM brass into a 22CM die.

Lower pressures = better barrel life.
Brass is easy to come by
Bullet choices happen to be the easiest ones to locate - 70gr, 75gr, 77gr, 80gr all perform really well in this caliber. I prefer the 75's
I have taken this out to 1100 yards with great success on steel targets. I was actually surprised it got out there with such authority.

It FEEDS FLAWLESSLY! There are no issues like what bward is reporting with 6BR

I have one barrel with 2k rounds on it, still looking good. I hope we can hit 3500 or so before it needs a new tube.
I have another barrel with 200 rounds on it and its shooting tighter and faster then my other barrels. So, still working out bullet selections and powder charges.
So far, I love this caliber. Its fun, very low recoil, easy to load for, and components are not hard to come by.

Steve123, no doubt, but myself rather run factory 22-250 stamped cases - COW method (or ammo for that matter) than forming 6mm down, not a big issue. Just like stamped brass, and figure brass less expensive. If the 22 and 6mm CM ever were done in factory ammo/rifles and stamped brass for 22, it might be more attractive to more people.
