I have recently installed a JP barrel and bolt. I bought them as a headspaced pair from JP. The barrel is the 18" Supermatch, light contour, 1:10 twist in .308/7.62 NATO.

I took it out to the range last week to test some light loads: 155gr with 44gr Varget. Total round count is 38. Upon cleaning and inspection, I found wear that I have not seen on my other gas guns. Pictures below.

I previously ran a Rainier Arms Match 18" 1:10 with the unmodified 7.62 Industries BCG on this setup with no noticable wear.

It is a Mega upper/lower, 7.62 Industries carrier group, fullsize DPMS buffer/spring, Troy low profile gas block, and running with no muzzle brake.

Do these pictures show uncharacteristic wear? I'm specifically concerned with the lugs.

Pics are always difficult to get a complete idea of what's going on, but I agree with the above re: the lugs getting battered somewhat (tail of the bolt, behind the gas rings, also looks to be getting some heavy wear for only ~40 rounds fired)...contact JP with your pics and a description of your concerns and see what John Paul and Co. have to say. They are generally on top of their comms although in this day/age, it may take a couple days...but they WILL get back to you with a response.

I just took a quick look at my bolt, there is a little more wear at the rear portion of the lug, limited to maybe 10% of the lug length. But my rifle has over 1200 rounds through it. Let us know what they say.

This is prob. the best pic, you can see how far forward on the lug the wear pattern is.

Thank you all for your input.

I sent JP an email with the pictures and the description of my issue. One other anomaly is the wear is noticeably non uniform; some of the lugs are prestine while others have significant contact impressions.

That wear is not abnormal. Part of what you see could be caused by the barrel extension of course. Incidentally, synthetic grease is the proper lubricant for that part-to-part contact, but a light application, on dry, clean steel.

ss7 not to worry, they will get back to you. I have e-mailed them a couple of times and it did take a few days but they will get back to you very soon, I promise.
