I would like to take the time to let those interested know about the next Sniper's Challenge July 17th and 18th in Taylorsville Ga hosted at Creekside Firing Range.

This is coming directly from the website www.creeksidefiringrange.com owned and operated by Joe Harris.

Sniper Challenge

Check in 9:00 a.m. no later

Briefing 9:30 a.m.

First Shot 10:00 a.m.

The shooting day will be Saturday and we will have a field craft day on Sunday. You do not have to participate on both days. There will be a winner for the shooting portion on Saturday and a winner for the filed craft portion on Sunday.

We will have an overall winning team for the entire match. This winning team will win a larger prize for being the overall winners. The scores from Saturday and Sunday will be combined to get the total score. We are working on getting some great prizes for this match.

The challenge is set up to test your skills with a rifle while shooting at various targets at unknown distances. No one will know the course of fire until that morning. Shots will be fired from 100 yards to 600 yards. You will be required to shoot different positions and also move from one station to the next. That’s about all you need to know. Sorry, but this is a challenge and that’s all the info your going to get.

SATURDAY: WHAT YOU TAKE YOUR FIRST SHOT WITH IS WHAT YOU WILL TAKE ALL YOUR SHOTS WITH( THIS INCLUDE GEAR, WEAPON, AMMO, SPOTTING SCOPE, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU NEED).

There will be no range finders allowed and no wind meters.

You can work as a team, if both team members are shooting then you will run it twice. No spotter will spot for more than one shooter.

This event is going to test your skills. You will shoot from various positions and various obstacles. You will be pushed to test your ability as a sniper. Be prepared to shoot in any environment and at any type of target. There will be sub moa targets and no target will be greater than 4 moa. Be prepared to shoot at targets that are not stationary also.

SUNDAY: The field craft exercises will consist of a target detection stage, a range estimation stage, and a stalk with you setting up in a firing position. The stalk stage will have spotters looking for you while you are moving and getting into position. You and your partner will do the stalk together and also set up together. We will also have a kims game for fun and have a separate prize for the winner of the kims game.

Sunday will be an extremely fun day and truly test your skills besides the shooting aspect of it.

Any questions please feel free to contact me at anytime. Joe Harris 770-634-2144

We will have prizes to give away to the top finishers and also the top teams. Sponsors will be updated as we have them confirmed.

We will limit this to the first 40 shooters confirmed.

The fee for the match will be $30.00 for each day or $50.00 for both days.

I am NOT Joe Harris, my name is Adam and I will be shooting in the match.

I look forward to seeing guys from wherever come shoot with us.

You can look back and see from other posts some of the interesting and challenging positions we have shot out of in the past. If you have any questions Ill do my best to answer them if I can. One other thing that wasnt mentioned, its July and its hot in Ga in July so bring some dry clothes ..... there will be a creek crossing stage to cool us off.

Well folks, I have been working on getting us some more prizes and sponsors for the match.

So far I have spoke with Short Action Customs, Underground Skunkworks, and Manner's Stocks who have all agreed to a donation for the prize table. So if you want to get in on this event you may just want to go ahead and register now. Registration is limited so act fast.

Match in July, What was I thinking !?!?!?!

Don't worry sir, Joe usually cools us off in the middle of the July challenge with a creek stage. Just be sure to bring some extra shoes and socks!

Hell I might do better, but I'm going to miss out this one. We are going to see my Bro at Camp Lejeune that weekend.

Re: July Sniper Challenge in Taylorsville Ga yet again

I have always offered a $100.00 cash to anyone that can clean the match. The match in July I will offer $250.00 cash to anyone that clean the match. Match will be no harder than the previous ones. I will gladly give the cash if someone can clear the match.

Re: July Sniper Challenge in Taylorsville Ga yet again

Heck, going to try and make it down there. Sounds way over my skill set, but also sounds like alot of fun.

Judging from the weather forcast, the creek might not be the only thing that gets us wet....

Re: July Sniper Challenge in Taylorsville Ga yet again

I think the sniper matches are 4 times a year. Come out you'll enjoy it whether you place first or last.

Joe usually runs the sniper challenge quarterly. He said today that the next one would be the first or second Saturday in October and he was leaning toward the second one. I believe the date was the 16th. It's a great match and you wont regret the experience.

Re: July Sniper Challenge in Taylorsville Ga yet again

Day One...
First stage: Cold Bore Shot. Unknown Distance (300 - 500 Yards)

Second stage: 4 steel targets at 300 yards, 6" Plate, A Turtle, and two 4 inch plates, then paper @ 110 and 210 (3/4 " Dot and 2" Dot) Dial ONE Dope to engage the targets at all 3 ranges, once you dial the first dope you can't change it. Start out by climbing on top a modified Sawhorse, feet must not touch the ground, flopping around up there you engage the steel... Challenging to say the least. Then you shoot the paper at both ranges prone... your verbally assigned a pair of dots at each range, if you forget what he said... your Flucked.

Third Stage: "No see'ems" (No Line of Sight) 8 targets downrange, your laying prone with a set location your scope must be in. You can only see a few of the targets from this position, the spotter can see them all. The theory is for the spotter to use a visable target as a "marker" and dial you into the hidden targets. Barrels were placed about 20 yards in front of you to block the view of the targets. Well ..... Many rifles (Mine Included) had great difficulty shooting over the barrels. A few had no issues, but the barrels got more hits than the targets.

Forth Stage:(Deliverance) Bail off nut deep in a fast moving creek, make you way to a log jam that serves as the staging area. When your called, you simply have to cross the log jam into a deeper pool of water, then climb a 14' Vertical river bank (Mud wall) to the shooting position (carrying your gear)with the aid of a rope and a few knots... When (if) you make the climb you are instantly in a steel framed Motor crate, you can kneel or shoot prone, but not all targets are visible prone... And the steel bars make it a rather uncomfortable experience. **By Far this was my favorite stage of the weekend**

Fifth Stage:From the staging area you embark on a scenic journey through some of Georgia's thickest briers and woods... Be careful, you 1/2 a step away from a unhealthy fall into the creek... When you make it through, ignore the bleeding and stinging because you on your belly low crawling a Zig Zag course into position under string. The shooting position has you shooting 9 possible targets... Through one of two 55 gal drums lain horizontal with the bottom cut out... Hint: Not all targets are visible from one barrel.

Bonus Stage: Prone 500 yard shots on Sub Moa targets that I will leave a mystery.....

To sum it up it was a Great Shoot ! Joe Harris that runs it was Top Notch, a sure enough good guy that wanted everyone to figure it out and do well..

Every stage had time limits... Most seemed shorter than a Super bowl commercial ! Very few times did I see anyone clear a stage before TIME was called.

If you want to meet and hang out with a group of people that are second to none, feel very welcome, have a great time AND get a big injection of humility..... Be at the next one ! I sure as hell will be. I am normally not one to do the social thing, but these folks were so friendly I joined a couple dozen of them in crashing a local BBQ place.... Great Times !

HERE are a few various pics of people and the range.

~~~Disclaimer~~~ Names may have been changed to protect the innocent, Ranges and target numbers are based on memory and are Likely Flawed. Objects in the woods may be closer than they appear !
Re: July Sniper Challenge in Taylorsville Ga yet again
That was the most fun I had losing to a great bunch of shooters. I walked away with more knowledge than I came with. After a match like that, I feel more confident than ever because how much harder could that have been?(Don't answer that Adam).
Nice description AKAce. Although you forgot the crawl wire on the barrel run, and the "pop-up penality" (heh heh- nothing but fun). Most of you guys are in shape, but I'm like Brian- I'm tired! But I loved it.
Great job Joe.
Re: July Sniper Challenge in Taylorsville Ga yet again
Is it best to have someone spot and not shoot or someone that is also running the course? Just wondering if my friend should come to the next one with gear or just have him watch me pull the trigger.
