Just another excellent experience with Big Horn- and timing my trigger

So, after doing what I always do when I want to find out about anything gun related (which is to search The Hide), I ended up reading a thread about "timing a trigger" with an action. I had noticed a difference between my Origin's silky smoothness and my TL3's, not quite silky smooth, let's say. (It wasn't really much and it didn't bother me but I wondered if it should be that way or not). So after reading a thread about it, I emailed Big Horn Arms, inquiring about getting a new cocking piece that would time better with my TT diamond, and thus, gain the silky, on this action too....

After an immediate response, Ray said that he'd really prefer that he could look at it himself, and that if it isn't running like my origin, he'd like to see it.

So I sent it to him (that was this week btw). Just got an email from him saying he had changed the firing pin assembly and that it should wear in very well now, and be good to go" (summary)

He's sending my BA back to me today ! I thought I'd post about it since I'm not sure if everyone knows that triggers can be and may need to be timed, and I just appreciate the incredible customer service that I 've gotten from Big Horn, more than once now. I can't say enough good about Big Horn and Ray's products, nor their Customer service.

I think it's great that Zermatt offers this service. I wish more action manufacturers would.

Most people don't understand how much the interface between the trigger and action influences how an action "feels".

Honestly, I didn't understand either. I knew the bolt reset the trigger, but I didn't understand that it had so much impact on how the bolt runs and feels. After I read that thread about it, I started looking into it. I'm so glad I did too.

Is this something I can do myself? I hate shipping, and being without my firearms. I have 3 of them, all with TT Diamonds. If so, how's it done?

It is but as I understood it, it seemed like something that was fairly easy to screw up too. I believe the cocking piece can be filed to achieve the right timing but you can also just get new cocking pieces after measuring the "cock on close" . As fast as Ray sent mine back, I thought it was best to just send it to him and let a pro do it though. There's a thread on here that discusses it, which is what got me started down this road. I would highly recommend at least calling Big Horn and talking to them. Apparently they will also send you a different thickness cocking piece if you give them the measurement, so it's not required that you send your gun in. Ray didn't charge me a dime though, not even to ship it back. I did pay to ship it out to him (my Ba. With trigger attached) but, it's well worth it to me to have the man himself time my trigger. I do understand not wanting to send it in and be without it. My total time from the day I sent it, to when it will be back is one week though, total.

    Good to hear. Thanks.

I have had great CS with Bighorn too. I have one of the very first TL3's from 2016. The cocking piece on it actually broke and they replaced it ASAP. I then broke a firing pin on the other one and they replaced the whole firing pin assembly, sight unseen. Told me to keep my broken one for dry-fire practice after I offered to send it back for inspection. I've had no issues since with any of them.
